Ever use clay to get rid of waterspots on windows?

I have water spots on my windows that don't want to come off..
I have tried
Glass cleaner
Rubbing Alcohol
Cleaner polish
and most recently PI II

I was wondering if claying them would work?

They are clear as can be from the inside but from the outside :(

Read the threads about using #0000 steel wool but that scares me

Try wheel cleaner. It may be acidic enough. If that doesn't work then you could go to a pool supply store and try some muriatic acid. Just don't get it on the paint or your skin. Waterspots that resist everything you have tried so far are going to require a little extra oomph to get them off. Its time to break out the big guns.
 
Another alternative is to use an acid based toilet bowl cleaner.
I purcase it from a local janitor supply store.
I have used it for years to remove water spots from car glass as well as the windows on houses without any problems.
My approach ...
Wet a paper towel with the cleaner but not enough to drip.
Wipe on the glass and let sit for a few minutes
Wipe off with a damp cloth
rinse out the cloth and wipe again.
Do not get the cleaner on any metal, your hands, or the paint.
After this follow up with your favorite window cleaner.
Works great for me!!
 
I wonder if toilet bowl cleaner has muriatic acid in it...? I've used it and it does a great job on really bad waterspots.
 
Depends on the toilet bowl cleaner. Santeen toliet bowl cleaner has hydrochloric acid if I remember right. That is some powerful cleaner.
 
In the past, I've had good luck removing water spots on windows with some old Bon-Ami cleanser. A good light abrasive automotive polish like Poorboy's Pro Polish or SSR1 should get the job done too.
 
Save your money, you should have vinegar in the cupboard. Try as a 50:50 solution and work it on with a bit of foam or similar. Keep acid away from exposed metals including trims and aluminium or YOU WILL BE SORRY: just ask my local Lexus dealer who washed scruffed alloys with acid wheel cleaner and was rewarded with the priviledge of buying a new set of mags for the client. Cost? $2300.00!

If the windows are tinted maybe the stains are between the tint and the glass? Remember 15yo kids put the stuff on!

what actually happened when acid based wheel cleaner is used on alloy wheels? btw will it be ok on chrome or clearcoated wheels?
 
So you say vinegar will get water spots off,,,, hmmmmmmm let me see be back later with results!!
 
I think I will try the vinegar first.. before I move onto the heavy artillery.

vinegar and #0000 steel wool works wonders. My fav. combo is Stoner's IG with #0000 steel wool. Both do a great job, make sure to use light passes with the steel wool. I don't apply any pressure, just let the wool slide over.


Follow up with a polish, I like AIO.....
 
I wouldn't disrespect the people who put on the window tint. They do not hire 15 year olds to do that kind of work. It is handled by professionals. They hire 15 year olds to detail your car when you take it to a car wash. Window tinting is a little too much responsibilty for an idiot. Even if it is a 15 year old who applies it, then I can promise you that they wouldn't have the job if they didn't know what they were doing. I'm a little sensitive to that issue because I used to work as a window tinter. Its not as easy as you would think and no window tinter would apply tint to dirty glass.

Appreciated, but I've seen it and I've seen finger prints between the tint and glass, just last friday in fact. It was a bloody big hand print too! I don't know what's sader: that people don't take the time to do jobs properly or that people continue to sponsor businesses that conduct themselve in that manner...
