Ever see body shop masking paper?

I'm looking to find a place where I can buy this masking paper I saw my body shop use when they had to buff a door and didn't want to get sling all over the place. From what I remember it was a brown roll of paper, probably about 24-36 inches wide, with an adhesive strip on one side much like the post-it note adhesive. It was the greatest thing to mask off large areas.



Anyone know what I'm talking about and better yet where I can get it?
 
How about trying packing paper. You can probably find some at WalMart. Basically it's just a packing/ wrapping supply, nothing special.
 
You could also contact a couple local body shops and ask where they get their supplies. That paper probably gets shipped to them from a local distributor.
 
I did a work-around from stuff I found at my local walmart. They carry 3M auto masking tape. They also carry thin plastic paint dropcloth rolls - pre-perf'd at 10 foot intervals. So I taped the plastic to the car. Worked great.



Someone wrote me and said that the paper doesn't actually have the adhesive attached, that body shops have a special setup which, as the paper is unrolled off a roller, applies the adhesive tape to the edge. And it's an expensive setup for a weekend joe-blow hobbiest to have.



If that's true maybe it's time 3M work on its post-it adhesive and get it pre-applied to masking paper.
 
They carry this stuff in Home Depot and Lowes in the paint section...its a roll of brown paper and you can get it in a bunch of different sizes. You can also pick you up some painters tape there too...blue is a little stronger than the purple.

I'd caution against putting any type of adhesive on a car if it's not specifically car detailing tape. At least that's my intuition, if someone has knowledge about other types of tape that would be ok please pipe up.
 
I get rolls of it in different widths from 9" to 24" from local pro auto paint suppliers. It's cheap, less that $6-8 a roll if I remember right. You can also get it at Sherwin Williams or Porter Paint stores. :up
 
Hey Brad.. look for my comment about you in a thread dealing with paint cleansing on top of a good polish job.



Does the paper you get have an adhesive already attached to it?
