Ever made your own website?

Making a basic website is pretty simple. I created mine using Frontpage.

they have wizards that walk you through it. If any of you have questions, ask away.

I made my own site with a lot of reading and a Joomla template. I've happy with it so far, but there are lots of things I would like to see improved where I could see paying someone else to do it for me.

I bought a template from a company that was recommended by a photographer. His site looks really good using their templates. I ended up redoing a lot of the code to get the page like I wanted it. It definitely took some time to figure everything out, but it is worth it. I suggest everyone look into at least learning the basics. Having someone do it can be nice, but what do you do when you want to add something or change something? I can add or subtract something quickly.

I say you seek out a pro, they are current on the best layouts and asthetics of a page. I did my own on googlepages back when you could, it was good, but now I'm having Jesse (apollo auto) do my new one. The first impression is critical, the easy of naivgation, power words, and correct use of meta tags are what most don't get. I did my site, got some work from it, but had a friend come in and set up the tags and wording so it would show up in the top 3 in searches.............business jumped after that by 3 times.

Cheers,

I can help you optimize your site after you get it built if you want.

Jake, if you don't mind, I'll take you up on that offer.

Mine's been up for a while now and I get NO revenue from it. If someone could tell me what I'm doing wrong, it would be greatly appreciated. Don't sugarcoat it. If it's screwed up, tell me so I can fix it.

While there are other detailers in my area, none have a website, so at least I'm ahead in that respect:)

I just got done designing my own website using the standard Mac software, iWeb. It's great for people who are HTML retarded like myself and is still able to create a nice looking website by yourself. If you have no visual arts/spacial vision when it comes to designing things, iWeb can't do that for you. You still have to have SOME skills when making the website but iWeb puts all of that at your fingertips. Although I would still like a few more in-depth options to be offered, my site is leaps and bounds better than it used to be.

I used godaddy.com about a year and a half ago to make my site. I used the template design and it's similar to Jakes, but you can have add ons, like the top banner can be changed to match your logos or any pictures you have. You can also keep adding pages. I didn't know anything about websites at the time, and now my site is optimized and on the first page of Google everytime you punch in the detail keywords, but it takes time on Google. Yahoo and MSN were easy to make the first page on, but google is more tricky. I do think they just changed the way they spider sites though. One more thing; I used to have alot of pictures on my homepage and someone told me Google's spider can't read pictures, so I took them off, and my rankings went up tremendously and got me on the first page. Being on the first page on Yahoo and MSN etc gave me alot of leads, but it wasn't till I made it with Google that the phone doesn't stop ringing, and that along with word of mouth gives me more than I can handle.

I did my own website: Mobile Car Detailing & Cleaning Sydney | Superior Shine also all the SEO (Search Engine Optimisation). I now rank #1 for about 10 keywords on google that i wanted to rank high for. This is where 90% of my business comes from. The website books me out 4 days a week atleast.

If anyone needs any tips or anything let me know :)
