Essential Tools for mobile Buisness??

Mobile Detailing is not a easy business to run. Oh! You can buy a few OTC products and some towels and call yourself a detailer. IMO! To really be Successful at it, you will have to provide a Great Service, please the customer, price range for your area, do Fantastic work. This is my 7th year in the Mobile Detailing Business. I have done my homework, and constantly stay aware of new products and processes. I also invested in some training to enhance my skills and knowledge. I carry water, heated extractor, wet dry vac, generator, pressure washer,3 buffers,Ozone Generator, and most of the latest products on the market. ONR, Menzerna, Optimum, Poor Boy's, Chemical Guy's,WolfGang, Souveran, DoDo Juice, etc. But, the main reason I have been successful is Hard Work, and customer Satisfaction! Good Luck! I learn something everytime I detail another vehicle. If on the other hand you want to get into full paint correction, and restoration. Stay with it find a mentor that can help you learn the trade. Washing and waxing, shampooing is just one phase of detailing. There are alot of other areas to go into, like carpet & upholstry repair, leather & vinyl ,headlight restoration, trim dying, wet sanding, steamers extrctors, vapor machines, odor removal, stains, spots materials chemicals, etc. Do your homework, whatever you decide to professionalize in. Even it's just a Wash, Clay and Wax. Be Good at it!

theres lots of how to videos on youtube, there are a lot of porter cable and meguiars DA how to's... if you are planning to start out with otc stuff to learn with. meguiars power polish came as a big suprize to me... its cut/polishing ability is very pad dependent, works well with many different pads. swirl X also works well with a DA. i can do correction with either one, and follow up with 3m ultrafina, i get awesome results, and i have yet to have an unhappy customer... i havnt gotten into agressive compounding, and i make that clear to the customer that i will leave deep defects there, they generally like the idea of me not taking off too much paint chasing after a few deep swirls, or scratches. remember a lot of polishes also have fillers (things like oils designed to hide the swirls it doesnt get rid of, so after each pannel, i do an IPA wipedown ( 50% isopropyl alcohol,50% water) to get rid of any fillers so i can see my real results. IPA wipedown is also a good thing to do before applying a wax or sealant, most products will last longer if you do this because they can get a better bite on the paint (hold on better). im not a professional, i dont do this for a living, im just a college student whos been *detailing* for around 4 years and gets awesome results. i wouldnt be half as good without this website though.. i cant imagine how many days of my life have been spend infront of this computer screen reading over thread after thread. good luck

I highly recommend a Cyclo. I am also fairly new to the paint correction process and the Cyclo has turned my business into a highly profitable outfit! Get a Cyclo, several sets of orange pads, a few sets of Green, some good compound, and a good wax.. That would be a great start. It cant burn paint, doesnt swirl, can use it in 100 degree heat without a problem. It is an amazing machine and I really think that should be your next purchase. Just my opinion tho..

Here is what I did to an old beat up Land Rover in 5 minutes on a 85 degree sunny day! Didnt even have to wash it. Just a little windex and a Microfiber, taped off a section, and ran with it. Lands a customer EVERY time! How can they say no! ha.

Yes, I know this was far from perfect. It was just one pass with Alpha grit and Orange pads (2 minutes). Then 1 pass with polish and green pads (2 minutes). And it turns out the guy also owns this vehicle (scheduled for saturday).

^^^Do you do demonstrations like this and if so, how do you approach people? Sounds like a great advertising strategy!

And for the original poster, I would suggest you get a Porter Cable 7424 XP and the M105 and M205 for your polish then Megs #7 as a sealant and to top it off I use Pinnacle XMT 180 (smells like grapes hahaha) Good Luck!!!
