Epoxy floor coverings

The woman and I are looking at a house to buy. The garage is 2 1/2 cars wide, but has no center drain. The concrete in the floor has it's share of chips and golfball sized 'potholes'. If we get the house, I would like to install a drain and fix the floor. After I figure out the slope of the floor, I was planning on installing a drain. After that, I need to figure out how to fill in the holes and other defects in the floor.

Many moons ago, I saw in either Hot Rod or Car Craft a heavy duty floor finishing system that used an epoxy resin to fill in cracks and holes. Then, a layer of epoxy was added, sand was broadcast to add thickenss, then an epoxy with coloring agent was added on top. Has anyone ever seen this product recently?

The community we live in has community power. My electric bill with A/C would be $30 per month. :o) Therefore, full electric radiant heat will be installed along with a bunch of insulation. Since the house has central air, I will use our current window unit to cool my garage when needed in the summer.

By the way, my wife thinks I'm nuts. But she doesn't complain sinc eI keep her Saturn and 70 MGB in prinstine condition. :o)

Check the local codes to be sure that you can legally install a floor drain in a garage. I know in Missouri it is illegal to retrofit a floor drain that may drain into any public sewer system or street or yard. They are afraid you will drain your antifreeze or oil and let it escape into the enviorment. :nixweiss

When my brother built his house several years ago he could not get a floor drain, because of concerns of poluting the ground water. If he really wanted a floor drain it would have cost big bucks for filtering equipment. My best advice is to find a garage with a floor drain. There is alot of house for Sale in Monroe County.
