EO A2Z & Meg's Hot Rims pic comparision

Since I did my A2Z test at little wrong a couple months ago, I decided to try a A2Z vs Meguiar's Hot Rims test this time, again on Mom's car.. and I followed the directions! (I think ;) )



Both wheels I played with were on the front. The car had not been washed in at least a month, probably longer. Mom has driven from Indiana to Maryland and Indiana to Kentucky during this time, and the car was just sitting outside at the airport for a week. I think I put EX-P on the wheels in mid-July.



No brush agitation was done with either wheel.. just sprayed on and rinsed off. Didn't want to have to track down two brushes that were exactly the same (to avoid cross contamination) and make sure that I did the same amount of agitation on both. Both cleaned up just fine afterwards with a brush and car wash soap.

Getting started with Hot Rims.. I dropped the bottle and cracked the sprayer, so I had to put a new sprayer on it.

I'd say that the Eagle One A2Z did a better job at cleaning. Looks like more crap was left on the Hot Rims wheel. May have something to do w/ the Hot Rims being sprayed on a wet wheel :nixweiss Since they are similarlly priced, I'll keep using A2Z



Like I said, a brush and car wash soap cleaned the rest of the stuff off, so the wheels probably weren't all THAT bad to begin with.

My wife's buick has exactly the same wheel and while the EO A2Z is great stuff, it will not get the brake dust in the nooks and crannies along the ouside edge of the wheel. Use a long haired OXO brush or equivalent, and agitate the A2Z and the dust will easily be removed.

My gf has some Hot Rims and the old Meg's Citri Gel and I have A2Z. I can confirm your finding about Hot Rims, nope, not effective enough on really soiled wheels.



I ought to do an A2Z v. Citri Gel some time. I suspect the A2Z may do the job faster due to its ingredients while Citri Gel is A LOT more mild, it can cling to paint for a long time.
 
Yea, I only had those two wheels to play with. Wouldn't have been fair to use a rear wheel since it stays so much cleaner. In fact, just a few swipes of the brush and car wash soap got them pretty clean.



I would have liked to have tried S100 gel wheel cleaner in my testing too. You can let it sit for 15 - 20 minutes if you'd like, and the gel does cling to the wheels pretty well. It's really mild, but I'd think that being on the wheel for a long period of time would make up for the mild-ness :nixweiss
 
Since we're talking gel cleaners, I just saw over on DC that 4 Star has a new gel wheel cleaner. Interesting. I wonder if it can do the job of Citri Gel as well.
 
i have used A2Z and it works well, if wheels have been neglected or just really bad, a soft wheel brush usually does the trick.

yup. my mom's car is washed about once a week (more if i'm bored, less if im busy) and the wheels are always washed with a retired sheep skin mit and some cheapy car wash soap. never a problem (except for that damn little line about 1/8" thick that Mopar likes to put around the entire wheel on most of their vehicles).



on the other hand, my dad's '99 super duty is the father-less kid ( ;) )of our fleet. its too huge to wash, and it gets dirty from scout-outings and boat weekends. i tried using A2Z on the wheels, and it just couldnt cut it, even with agitation. i think the wheels (actually, it's the plastic lug cover in the center of the wheel) maybe be permanantly etched with brake dust, if its possible...:( i guess we could splurge on the big girl and buy her some new shoe accessories...



good write up. i have both cleaners, but i dont ever use them for wheels, because like i said, i dont let our cars get that dirty. i use A2Z every week though, to clean the tires.
 
I just checked the bottle of Hot Rims I have lying around and it actually says to spray it on a DRY wheel, like most of the wheel cleaners I've seen.



Its performance would have been better, but I ran a similar test last year or so, and A2Z still won out. It really is an extremely effective wheel cleaner.
