Let's see some pics of your engine's all cleaned up. My LS1 is extremely clean but I know that I can do better! What do you guys recommend as LSP for engines? I was told a rubber/vinyl protector such as the megs product is good?

This is a 1986 Porsche 928 engine - a car I sold a couple of years ago. The engine has never been removed from the car. It had 74,000 miles on it when I sold it.

P-nut- As an ex-928 owner I applaud how nice you kept that engine. Those take a bit of work.

Striker- I'm not a really big fan of dressings that leave things glossy and/or attract dirt. About all I use are 303 and Autoglym Bumper Care. Those work surprisingly well on non-plastic/rubber surfaces too.

For rubber parts that just won't clean up, I like the somewhat pricey Griot's Rubber Prep.

I also use 303 on the engine and only 303. I just though that there may be a better product out there. What's your method of application? I simply spray and wipe.

I'm more likely to spray it on a swab or cloth and apply with that. Spraying just makes me nervous...overspray mist/etc.

today i used megs apc with a soft brush then followed it up with 303. its not perfect but its my engine and im satisfied. elk

I use an ordinary shop rag as I know the MF towel will absorb most of the product.

I dunno...I often use crappy/old MFs. Seems like my cotton rags soak up at least as much :nixwiess Guess it depends on the MF/rags in question, and yeah...use whatever works best.

Thanks. The engine wasn't bad when I bought it, but nowhere as clean as it is in the pics I posted.

As far as products I used, it was very simple. P21S Total Auto Wash as a degreaser, regular soap and water, and Vinylex for the rubber/plastic parts. Sometimes I used a little QD between washes.

I got it clean slowly, thru several wash cycles. Once it was super clean, it was easy to keep it that way. :)

Yeah, the trick is to never let it get really bad again :xyxthumbs

Im going to be doing the engine bay on my girlfriends new/used clk 350-anything I need to cover??

Mainly the alternator or any exposed electronic bits. In the newer cars this shouldn't be as big of an issue.
