I think I notice a darkening in my brilliant blue color following Z5. Is this a side effect of filling in the light swirls, or am I imagining things?

I haven't noticed that on my Acura and I have NBP! What are your washing techniques?

The fillers in Z5 have less perfect optics than Z2. This changes the clarity and brightness of the reflected light. Also, the fewer scratches you have,(the flatter the surface) the less white highlights and hot spots you will have. Both of these can appear to change the color of the paint.

Acura TL: I did the Dawn wash, Z1 Z5 and Z6-Z2 24 hours later, and did not notice anything (except the swirls were much less pronounced). Then a week later did another round Z6-Z5 delay Z6 Z2 Z6... Now the swirls are not noticeable, and the ABP color does appear to be less bright. That's OK by me!
(And I love the NBP color also)

Brad: - > makes sense.

Thanks for the info Brad. The info of the Z-5 tending to darken the color of the paint is not a good characteristic. As you know, this is something that I was trying to stay away from. I guess, its only going to be Z-2 after I finish this 1 bottle of Z-5. Again, I'm slightly bummed out at the discovery that the Z-5 darkens the paint color.

Why dont you like the darkening affect of the z-5 don. Isnt kinda like the affect that klasse has in deepening the paint a little? I dont know just curious.

Excuse the poor spelling, but it doesn't count for much, anyway, here is a thought.

This paint is a high metallic, blue pigment, so I would take a stab at the layer of product and it's solid content is altering the light rays angle reaching the metallic particles (mica) and refracting them at a different angle. The blue pigment is trapping some of the light (blue pigment is known for this, one of the reasons that the first of the delamination colors of the old Ford, Toyota and others who had the concern were blue) and reducing it's reflection back to your eye.

To technical, sorry, but that is what would happen.

The darkening of the paint will be much more obvious on light colored cars. Brad, I've mentioned this many times before, but I have a silver-grey colored car. After using 7 coats of Klasse SG or so, my car became grey. Didn't like that as I really like more of a silver color. This is why I decided to give the Zaino system a try as it is more optically clear. Laters

Cool, i was just wondering. I can see where a darkening of the color can be real nice on say, black, but un-benaficial with a light silver. Thanks

...and noticed that the paint DEFINATELY looks darker now. I used 3M SMR for dark cars on the hood because i felt too cheap to buy some of the stuff for light colored cars. But the hood does not look any darker than the rest of the car, which I didn not use the SMR on.

electron blue is the same color as you can get on the Civic Si. It's hard to miss, very very bright blue. Now, with just one coat of Z1 and one coat of Z2, the car absolutely GLOWS. the color is so much richer, definately darker, and much richer. at twilight, the effect is amazing.

Go zaino!

Ummmm, if you're going to run the car with a 1/2 & 1/2 exterior for demo purposes shouldn't you have done just 1/2 of the engine compartment? Or not.

Nice work regardless!

Nice!

So have you had this car since new? If so, nice to see you putting your passion into "an old friend" vs. taking the shops word for it with a re-paint.
