Engine Detailing: Blackmagic 2-in-1 Smell

I took a shortcut on Friday and used Blackmagic 2-in-1 Engine Degreaser and Shine to clean my engine bay. While it worked really well to clean my car's engine bay (but the shine is terrible, nothing like what CD2 does), it has left a terrible kerosene smell.

It has been 4 days since I used it and it still smells terrible. Luckily the smell is not permeating into the cabin or through the ventilation system, but outside it reeks of kerosene.

Two days ago I did a good ol' fashioned Simple Green wash to try and get rid of the smell. The water ran down with kerosene floating on top, and I thought that did the trick. But it still smells absolutely horrible and I can't stand being in my garage for anymore than a few minutes because of the smell (the garage is clean, since it doesn't smell with the car not in it).

Any suggestions? I'm thinking of having someone with a steam cleaner do a proper cleaning on the engine bay just to get rid of the smell. But even then I don't know if the smell will go away.

It is truly driving me up the wall.

Yes, I know exactly what you mean. It will go away, but takes a few heat cycles of the engine. I think it took a week.

I'll give it another week. Doing a 4 hour drive next weekend, so hopefully it'll go away then. Until then I'll probably try rinsing it with an orange-based cleaner.

Thanks for the replies!

Update:

Great success! I spent 10 minutes just hosing down the engine bay with a shower spray. I did this on a very warm engine (to the point where steam was coming off when I sprayed on the turbo heatshield). I am happy to report that the smell is gone. I would consider it 95% gone, the remaining 5% if only if you stick your nose next to certain parts and take a big whiff.

Since it's clean, time CD-2 the engine bay!

Glad it worked, but I would recommend not spraying down a "very warm" engine with cold water that produces steam. I personally use the CD2 after spraying and wiping down with an APC. I clean under the hood about once a month and it only takes a quick wipedown.
