Engine Cleaning

Whats the best product for cleaning your engine and following up with dressing the hoses etc? I have seen some stuff in Griots Garage catalog but haven't had any experience with it.

Thanks DC

I like simple green and water 1:1 with a touch of low odor mineral spirits for a boost in cleaning power. Tape off your factory warings and stickers in the engine compartment and anything else that you want to protect . Use a stiff bristle brush after spraying the compartment liberally. I give a once over with my vacuum in reverse and a towel to pick up any pooling water . once dry I use meguire's #40 and spray from all angles to insure to cover all areas and hoses.

#40 is a vinyl, rubber treatment that can be diluted w/water for the desired effect. It might be hard to find . Bold and bright will work well also ..

I like the SG for lightly dirty engines, but if it's really dirty, I like Gunk Foamy Engine Brite. It really does a fine job of cleaning under the hood. I have used a few different things as far as dressing hoses, and I kinda like the spray tire foam from Wal-Mart. It lasts a good while. I usually let it sit for a while and then wipe it down. Leaves a nice dark look to all my hoses/plastic. One thing I want to try for dressing is Adam's In & Out Spray.

Try CD2, it comes as a kit (engine cleaner/dressing). The first time I used it I was really impressed. I'm not going to say it is the best because I haven't used everything out there and until I do I won't say it's the best. However, I get awesome results with CD2.
