I'm starting to run out of things to do to the Prelude. Just finished under the hood and think I'm probably just going into a "maintanence" mode with the car now. This has been a great project for my son and I. He's begun to notice things on other cars that he never even saw before, and has started to understand my passion for cars and the pride of your ride lookin' good. He even asked me to take him to Autozone to buy his own detailing supplies with his mowing money instead of the usual trip to Best Buy to buy a video game! Probably the biggest thing is that he's no longer in awe of the "rich kids" with the new beemer or Acura because he knows that his car can look as good or better if he keeps after it. Some of them are asking him how to make their cars as shiney as his or how to clean the engine or paint the calipers.

Yeap, sounds like he's more into a peice of "pride nd joy" rather than one flaky car that is nice from the get go.



You should really push the the detailing supplies. It'll teach him to take care of YOUR investment, time and effort as well as show him a quick way to make a few bucks on the side from his friends and show them a thing or two. Nothing like being the center of the crowd because your car is shiny, even more so at that age. I got my SS at 19 and I take care of it better than anything I own. I'm 20 now and I still feel like I just got the car, it preserves that "new" feel.



P.S. Let your son maintain the car the just give him little pointers and tips until he doesn't need your help anymore. I bet he'd love to brag that HE keeps the car looking nice as it is...... (no one asked who got the car in that condition) ;)

Looks great . . . if you're still trying to find little touches to add here and there, you might consider a high temperature paint for the exhaust manifold heat shield. The rest of the engine bay looks insanely good, making that heat shield stick out a bit. Maybe you could let your son paint it blue? :D

I've been debating on the heat shield over the exhaust. I wanted to paint it blue but haven't seen any hi-temp paint that would match close enough. Of course, my son is convinced that he will be able to buy a set of headers later this summer and has been looking at blue ones he's seen in the magazines.

Convince him to SAVE and advance his driving skills. Then once he has a pretty good foundation, nothing would look better in the H22a engine bay then a bunch of ceramic coated turbo parts. :eek:


Though, I am truly in awe of what you have made that neglected oxidized Prelude into. Hmm, maybe you switched cars? ;)

Completly agree, improve his driving skills will make his safer and enjoy his car more.

I would just blast the exhaust shield or buy a new one, sometimes IMHO it is too easy to paint items on cars.

Lowejackson, would the exhaust heat shield be unpainted from the factory? I have a friend that runs a muscle car restoration shop and he has a really nice bead blaster. Would you just blast the shield and call if good? Do you think it would discolor quickly again? I've also got a good powder coating shop in town, would that hold up to the heat? Man, I'm sick, after starting this thread, I went out and looked at the heat shield again and started to clay bar painted things under the hood! Help, mommy!!
 
Can't eat, can't sleep, must do something with heat shield! LOL, thanks for the inspiration, found an acceptable color blue in Plasti-Kote brand 1500 degree paint yesterday. Before painting I tried bead blasting the exhaust shield and it was too pitted to look worth a darn. The cool thing is that under the heat shield is a really nice set of factory tube headers.

Man, I feel sorry for some mechanic. He's gonna pop the hood, see all that blue, flinch hard, bonk his head on the hood, and the prop rod's gonna hit him in the face.



All you need now is one more thing.................................
