Elise #2

So this was my second Lotus Elise, this time it is an '06 with the LED taillights and an awesome Krypton Green shade that looks soooo much better in real life then in pictures. I got so much attention detailing this vehicle in a cosy neighborhood that I was able to sell my services to passerbyers. Nevertheless, the car was in fine condition, all that was desired was winter protection. Wash, clay bar, RMG, Collinite 476S. The first four pics are before, the rest are after. Nothing too special but the car is just so kool! I forgot to get interior pics, but is a creme color called Magnolia with a special diamond pattern on the seats. Enjoy:

I guess the owner wanted that colour because it stands out!

Did you use Meguiar's Wheel Brightener on the wheels?

The owner wanted something unique and fun, and that's exactly what the car is. All that was done to the wheels was a very tedious detail using a very thin Eagle One wax applicator and S100 gel wheel cleaner. The before pictures don't do justice to the level of dirt on the wheels. They came out looking great though. These wheels were the most pain in the butt I've ever delt with so far simply because you had to get the applicator inbetween the split spoke as my Meg's wheel brush could not fit inbetween. To completely dry the wheel I had to do a similar, slow process.

does anyone know if the stock wheels on the elise are clearcoated? If so, can you use wheel cleaner on it? like the turtle wax kind ( I believe it is not an acid based cleaner).

Thanks

Good job on the detail, I love the colour, it really suits that type of car. On the other hand if it was a bright green S-class then I might not be so full of praise! :D

Very nice work on a cool car.

Go to xat.com and download the free version of Image Optimizer. That will make your pics very clear when you downsize them.

Thanks for the comments everyone. I do believe the Elise has clearcoat on the wheels. Either way, I use S100 wheel cleaner because I believe the pH of the stuff is equivalent to water, or at least close to it. The tires, beforehand, where dressed with Armorall Extreme Tire dressing in a spray bottle. I have to say, they looked pretty darn good before the detail. After I was done though, I redressed the tires with Autoglym Tyre Dressing. If I had strong sun any time throughout the day, I would of taken a sun shot, but unfortunately that never happened. Only when the owner took me out for a spin was I able to get proper lighting from a gas station, but at that time I did not have the camera. I can say the paint actually has very small metallic flake, almost pearlescent. The Lotus Chrome Orange and I believe Aspen white also have a very nice, and more noticable pearlescent effect when viewed in person. During the different (cloudy) lighting conditions, the car did seem to take on different hues. It's a fun car indeed either way, and the best part is, it is as easy to drive as a Honda Civic because of the transmission/clutch set-up. Thanks for the xat.com link too.
