Got a question on polishes here. It's taken a while to read back posts, on and off.
I'm going to take a crack at my wife's white 1990 Pontiac Bonneville later this month. It lives outside year round in Washington, DC's lousy climate after having spent most of its life garaged in Georgia. It's in surprisingly good shape, with the paint still bright white. Swirls and some medium scratches on the hood and trunk, spiderwebbing on the trunk that you can see if you get up close. There's a faint brown blotch on the hood that isn't rust but appears to be under the clearcoat (though that could be my imagination.).
Plan overview:
Clay, polish, Klasse twins. Forever Black for the faded black trim. 303, Dawn, two buckets, MF towels, etc. No PC, so all work will have to be by hand.
First Question:
Which polish? My uncle tells me that AIO will magnify swirls so I want to reduce the swirls despite having to work by hand. If I understand correctly, the lack of a PC rules out Menzerna (since I don't want to be rubbing at it all day). I was thinking along the lines of Einszett Paint Polish followed by Einszett Metallic Paint (might a white car render the latter unnecessary?). The Ultra sounds like a bit much, although SamIam got good results on a Celica whose paint wasn't exactly "dull and weathered" (http://www.autopia.org/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=27805). I think he used a PC, though. I saw some recommendations for Meg's #9 followed by #7, too.
Second Question:
Anyone tried "Der Wunder Towel" that Autopia sells (my German-speaking wife is still rolling on the floor after reading that name last night)? I only found a few threads on it here and they were fairly inconclusive.
Thanks, folks. Great board, now I'll start participating.
