Eeek--Don't you hate seeing this?

Driving through neighborhood yesterday (after washing and waxing my car) and see a Dad and daughter scrubbing away and new black Volvo SUV with dirty looking cotton rags. Could see black stuff on the rags that the girl was using to wipe the truck with. :nono That SUV will be swirl city before long.

It really doesnt bother me at all. I did that for many years. Never really had a problem. They probably look at people like us and say "get a grip, its just a car".

I used to do things the wrong way too, the thing is, it's pretty easy to do it right or at least mostly right. To me, if you are already taking the time to do it yourself, might as well take some steps to minimize the damage.

Like anything, unless you KNOW there is a better way, you don't know you're doing it wrong. Or doing it less than optimally.

The other question is do these people even know they are doing damage? I would assume many see the gradual dulling of their paint as a natural progression, until it's time to buy a new one in a few years. The concept of having a 10-20 year old car that looks new is foreign to them, or would indicate that someone has absolutely babied their car.

If I were a professional detailer, I would LOVE to take a client with a nice car but with old, and scratched paint, polish and clean up a section in front of them, and then ask them what they thought.

I did note that it took me an hour to wash my car on Saturday with the 2 bucket method. This was about 10 minutes more than my usual one bucket method I was doing.

On the positive side, they're having some family time there. And it seems that perhaps the Dad thinks more of spending time with the daughter than the SUV. Who knows... maybe he really does know how to polish the SUV and will fix it up after the daughter goes to bed? :nixweiss

But, yeah... it's kind of sad to see the after effects. :(

I enjoy watching others screw up their cars. It makes mine look better. In reality, detailing is a disease that sucks time out of your life that could be spent more profitably on business or with family. Think about it: Hours and hours to get the car perfect and the very second you finish, dirt and dust have already accumilated.

This is worse than golf. You will NEVER achieve perfection, only frustration in its chase.

There's a neighbor that washes his BMW and Infiniti with one of those giant scrub brushes on a handle!!! :soscared:

Hmmm. If he can afford a BMW and Infiniti, he must be doing something right!

My kids 10 & 11 can do a pretty good job when they help me clean our cars. They still do things that create problems or more work. I'll take the problems and the extra work for the time we spend together and the lessons they learn in the process. I can always get the marring out later.

I see stuff like that all the time. My regular bank branch is right next to a coin-op car wash and I try not to even look over at it anymore. I saw some guy break out a new roll of paper towels to dry his black Civic. :nervous2:

Yeah, I seen many of these peoples doing the wrong thing..no biggie.

And they see me every weekend on my driveway doing detailing.. What do you think on thier mind about me :nixweiss
