Educate me on Zaino

Ive been an avid user of pretty much everything but Zaino. ClearKote, PoorBoys, Menzerna, Optimum, you name it. However, I have always steered clear of Zaino for whatever Zaino. After looking in the click & brag section, I think i've decided to finally give in and try out some Zaino. Im not looking into buying the whole product line, just a few things.

Z5 Pro- Polish, Removes light/moderate scratches swirling?

Z6 - Zainos Quick Detailer?

Z7 - Car Wash

Z8 - Spray Sealant

Am I right to assume they dont have a wax, and that the only protection offered is their Z8 Spray sealant? Also, can you use these products in conjuction with lets say other products (Ie: ClearKote, Menzerna, Opt)

Thx.

Z5 is not a "polish". They for some reason call them polishes, but they in fact have no polishing abilities. You may remove some light swirls with it if you use it with a polishing pad, but it's the pad doing the work. You should use Z2 or Z5 as an LSP.

Zaino ZPC is their only polish. I think it's considered a very light polishing formula meant to be a good base for Z2 or Z5 to bond to.

Z8 is a bit of a booster product. Is has some protection ability but is meant to boost the finish a little as opposed to applying another layer of Z2 or Z5. They say not for LSP use, but I guess it can be used that way.

Menzerna is the only one of the polishes you mentioned that won't cause bonding issues. Menzerna polishes leave no oils or fillers behind. Therefore causing no adverse effects on bonding. To really do it right, use either ZPC or Werkstatt Prime and AIO. These polishes leave a nice base for bonding. I prefer Werkstatt Prime Strong.

Z6 = QD

I see.

So what exactly is the Z5 then? Is it just something like VM? And what is comparable to Z2 pro, its not a wax is it?

Both Z5 and Z2 are acrylic sealants even though they're labeled "polishes." Z5 has some filling ability, but I didn't find it to be too useful in addressing swirls. You would probably be better served to use a true abrasive polish first for that. There are those that use Z5 because they actually like the look a little better than Z2 (it's thought that they do give a slightly different appearance). I'm basing this on the old Z5 though. I have not used Z5-Pro before.

Z5 isn't like Vanilla Moose. It's a true sealant. The similarity begins and ends with the fact that Z5 supposedly has some filling ability.

As far as what's comparable to Z2 Pro...think of any 100% acrylic sealant, such as FK 2180, AJ, 1Z Glanz Wax, etc.

Z8 is a booster-type product to use as upkeep until the next Z2/Z5 application and as the final step after layering. I like using it whenever I have any acrylic lsp (not necessarily just Zaino). It really is exceptional IMO.

Lastly, I haven't come upon a product line yet where following directions is as important as with Zaino. There's a definite regimen, but many feel it's worth it.

Z5 is a sealant. It has some filling ability and is geared more towards the darker paint. However it does look amazing on lighter colors as well. It's nothing like VM. VM is considered a glaze polish with "some" protection. Hard to really call it protection.

Z2 pro would be like EX-P, Werkstatt AJ, Klasse SG.

You really need to have the paint looking good before using the Zaino products. As with anything, prep is the key to the final product looking good.

Possible process:

Compound to remove swirls (Hi-temp Extreme/Optimum compounds/Megs #83/Etc....)

Medium cut (SSR 2.5-2/Megs #80/Optimum Polish/Menzerna PO106FF)

Final Polish (Menzerna FPII/PO85RD/PO106FF/Werkstatt Prime)

My car gets a mix of PO85RD mixed 50/50 with Werkstatt Prime Strong

Z6 Wipedown

Z2 or Z5 2-3 layers

Z6 wipedown in between coats and after final coat

:rules:

ZPC is an mildly abrasive polish

Z5pro is a stand alone sealant with filling ability (not cheap oils)

Z2pro is a higher gloss final sealant

Z8 is a fairly durable spray sealant for quick touch up or gloss enahncement

Z6 is a QD

I would skip the Z7. Very slick, but price vs. product quantity is a bit heavy. I used it in my FOam Gun, and it was THE BEST. But when I ran out I went back to TOL's BB and stuck with it.

I went Zaino with:

ZFX

ZPC

Z5

Z2 Pro

Z6

Z8

Z10

Z12

Z16

It's all very good. After following the paint care applications pretty closely (substituting Menzerna for ZPC), I swear a blind person could wash Zaino'd cars without introducing new marring. It's bullet proof and looks great!

Tell us more about the mix of 085/PS. Do you use something like a white LC VC or a excel green P2 with it?

I mix it often with FPII or PO85RD. I use about a 75/25 split most of the time depending on the paint. 75% being the FPII or PO85RD, and the 25% being Prime. I love the polishing effect of Menzerna and the cleaning effect of prime. And they both leave the paint clean and perfect, ready for that LSP.
