Product: Edge Shmitt white/yellow

Price: $10-15

*** Because I was unsure of the validity of some reviews of manufacturers of the product, I have decided to try this product and review it. I do not in any way have connections to the edge or anyone who sells this mitt. I purchased this mitt from Autogeek a while back when I was still shopping with them. Just to drive the point home that I am not biased towards edge, I tried the buffing pads once, and did not like them.

Manufacturer Claims: REDUCE SCRATCHES-Miantain that perfect finish wash after wash after wash. Wash with the gentle white foam front. This is the same foam found in the Edge white ultrafine polishing pad. The soft, closed-cell foam sheds dirt, rather than retaining it. Dirty water is able to escape from under the mitt thanks to the convoluted wave surface. Since the dirt is not rubbed into the paint, wash-induced swirls are greatly reduced

Packaging: Packaged in a plastic sealed bag

I wash with this tool and 2 buckets with grit guards. I wash 1 panel at a time, upper parts first, and rinse my mitt prior to each additional panel. Wash use with mitt has been Zaino Z7. I have done about 10-12 cars with this tool thus far.

Overall Thoughts: Not to shabby

I have to admit the negative advertising put me off from buying this for quite some time. I know the argument from edge is that using a sheepskin is like using a wool buffing pad, but that is just plain ridiculous. Finally I thought, "what the hell," and went for it. I was shocked to find that the mitt actually worked well. It hold a lot of water and when squeezed lets out more suds. I haven't noticed any additional marring from washing my car with this tool for 3-4 times and clients cars as well. Where as the sheepskins left the occasional hair on the car, the shmitt doesn't leave anything behind which is nice. Although the shmitt doesn't seem to trap any dirt or debris, I still rub it against my grit guard, but I don't know if it does much because the foam doesn't rub well against the grit guard and has caused some cuts in the foam. Is it a quality product? Yes. Would I buy one again? Yes.

Purchasing: Danase

Nice review and thanks Greg.

Oh yeah, EDGE never said it was like a wool buffing pad, I did. We were joking back and forth. LOL!

It took me a while to get used to it, but indeed, it is a very good product, and I prefer it over sheepskin for conventional wahsing. I have been using it since Justin's review and have not reached for anything else. What i enjoy the most from it, is its ability to glide without friction and its ease of rinsing.

Nice review, so far I have 2 pair of SchMitt. I used on all different type of color and if I recalled correctly. I haven't marr any cars yet(keep finger crossed) :D

I was baffled at first but I get it now...You were just kidding. Edge makes the best wool pads that I have tried. Just the different grades alone are just amazing.

I will have to pick up an Edge Shmitt too!

Great write up Greg....That helped alot with making my choice!

Thanks as always for your reviews Greg! Even though I post ad nauseum about the ShMitt and Edge pads, I am not associated with the company. I am just a very satisfied customer. I am so satisfied that I now own all the different ShMitts (white/yellow, all white, black, and yellow/white). They're all great.

I just bought 2 wash shmitts from danase a little while ago and have used them for about 10 washes each. Here are my observations;

- It is baffling to just get done washing a panel, looking at the mitt and seeing little to no dirt on it!

- any dirt on the mitt is usually removed just by a quick dunk in my rinse bucket. (I will usually brush my hand against it for good measure)

- very easy to visually inspect the mitt during the wash process. I dont know how many times I have found little pieces of grit in my sheepskin mitt AFTER my wash was already completed! It always has caused me much grief.

- cleanup extremely easy! since you can easily see the entire wash surface, you KNOW it is clean.

- durability. So far the mitts have held up very well, just little nicks and cuts, but very minor. Dries quickly. No nasty sheepskin smell. no shedding hairs.

- fits my hand better

- no new swirling found on any of my or customers vehicles

hope this helps anyone sittin on the fence!

Greg, Nice review.

I would have NEVER believed the Shmitt would work, but you forced the issue and sent me one. That said, I've used mine a few times, and haven't noticed anything substantial regarding marring pick up.

Maybe it's in my head, but I'm still not ready to take 'the plunge' on my vehicles because sheep skin mitts & the foam gun are working great for me.

I'd like to better understand what separates the Shmitt from other sponges on the market.

I plan on using the shmitt for washing duties this spring on details for further evaluation. Based on my limited uses, it does seem to be a durable wash mitt, and it cleans up well between uses.

Thanks for opening my eyes :)
