Product: Edge Shmitt white/yellow
Price: $10-15
*** Because I was unsure of the validity of some reviews of manufacturers of the product, I have decided to try this product and review it. I do not in any way have connections to the edge or anyone who sells this mitt. I purchased this mitt from Autogeek a while back when I was still shopping with them. Just to drive the point home that I am not biased towards edge, I tried the buffing pads once, and did not like them.
Manufacturer Claims: REDUCE SCRATCHES-Miantain that perfect finish wash after wash after wash. Wash with the gentle white foam front. This is the same foam found in the Edge white ultrafine polishing pad. The soft, closed-cell foam sheds dirt, rather than retaining it. Dirty water is able to escape from under the mitt thanks to the convoluted wave surface. Since the dirt is not rubbed into the paint, wash-induced swirls are greatly reduced
Packaging: Packaged in a plastic sealed bag
I wash with this tool and 2 buckets with grit guards. I wash 1 panel at a time, upper parts first, and rinse my mitt prior to each additional panel. Wash use with mitt has been Zaino Z7. I have done about 10-12 cars with this tool thus far.
Overall Thoughts: Not to shabby
I have to admit the negative advertising put me off from buying this for quite some time. I know the argument from edge is that using a sheepskin is like using a wool buffing pad, but that is just plain ridiculous. Finally I thought, "what the hell," and went for it. I was shocked to find that the mitt actually worked well. It hold a lot of water and when squeezed lets out more suds. I haven't noticed any additional marring from washing my car with this tool for 3-4 times and clients cars as well. Where as the sheepskins left the occasional hair on the car, the shmitt doesn't leave anything behind which is nice. Although the shmitt doesn't seem to trap any dirt or debris, I still rub it against my grit guard, but I don't know if it does much because the foam doesn't rub well against the grit guard and has caused some cuts in the foam. Is it a quality product? Yes. Would I buy one again? Yes.
