Edge/Presta yellow medium cut wool pad....weak?

Ive been using this pad for some time now and it really isnt all that aggressive. I started using it with OP my first few times with it and then started using it with OC becuase it just didnt have any bite with the OP. Even with the OC it is still pretty weak. It takes multiple passes to correct anything it seems. Anyone else find this wool pad to be this weak?

What RPM are you running?

I run the yellow wool at 1500-1700RPM, using HTHC or UCCL, and it cuts pretty well.

Spur the pad frequently if it gets loaded up.

Try UCCL - the cut will go through the roof. OP doesn't cut too aggressively even with a wool cut pad. If you really need to cut, try UCC and a black Presta pad @1500 - defects will disappear in front of your eyes, but keep it off panel edges.

I have heard the black is much more aggressive than the yellow. I suppose it's a good point to bring up though, as the yellow is considered a 'medium' cut and not a 'heavy' cut pad.

However, I've been able to achieve correction, even on some pretty tough clearcoats, using the yellow and UCCL or HTHC.

I use it anywhere from 900rpm all the way up to 2400rpm depending on what im working on. I dunno, it just dosent seem like it has that much cut to it. You would think that with OC it would cut way faster than it is. I spur it all the time, kinda have to with wool, the fibers lay down after a 2x2 section.

In alot of my threads people where telling me that if its a medium cut wool its equivalent to a heavy cut foam. I do not find that to be the case, its closer to a light cut foam.

That's strange. I can take a light cutting(polishing) wool with a light polish and do much more correction than the same polish with a heavy cutting foam. Is the wool pad you're using totally worn out? I've never used OC to know how it works, so I can't comment on that part of the equation.

Are you applying any pressure?

Only the weight of the machine.

Im definately doing something wrong.

I have only used it on 3 vehicles so far so the pad is still new. Almost all the vehicles ive come across havent needed major correction or the owners didnt wanna pay for it.

I took my truck off roading last week so now there is major scratches all over it again. Im gonna play with this wool again on it this sunday. Im starting to think that OC dosent play nice with wool or i need to be using edges black wool.

Coupe..if it means anything..I to had problems using Opt products with wool...seems the oils may keep the wool from cutting...I do not know..but once I moved over to either Hi Temp or menz it worked perfect....in fact I even moved down to a green wool and got great results....

The Opt products seem to do better with foam on a rotary...so I do not think your doing any thing wrong....

its a shot in the dark.....

I should have tried it with megs #83. I will try that.

I did try with megs #80 but it was the same outcome as it was with OC, obviously becuase of the oils.

Just to add a little to this. I prefer IP to SIP with wool pads.

EDIT: That wasn't fair.:hmph:

I prefer IP because it doesn't "stick" to the pad like SIP does which causes the fibers to lay down and do nothing.

Wasn't trying to make it one. Just stating that different polishes will have different effects even when supposed to be similar in cutting action.

Anthony Orosco uses OP with wool all the time and he gets great cutting action. Im thinkin OP with edge wool acts differently than the wool he uses when used with OP.

the Edge green and yellow are not pure wool pads- they are blended with a synthetic fiber. I have a wool pad and it is more aggressive than either the yellow or green but the yellow and green Edge pads leave a better finish. I'd try the presta compound as it was designed to work with those pads. I've used HTEC with the green and felt that it worked fairly well so it should work with the yellow as well.

Im probably gonna pick up megs wool pad from my local PBE store. Not sure if thats lambs wool or not, gonna have to call megs and find out.

Yellow edge wool does work great, i just want it to work faster, i shouldnt have to hit a panel more than twice.
