NSXTASY said:IMO, when speed 6 becomes an issue is when people try and do serious correction. It's just as much a problem with the limits of the PC as it with the adapters/BP. If you have problems with the Edge adapter, you likely need to step up to a rotary/cyclo/udm?.
There is no design flaw, it's just the fact that people try and do serious correction using their (Edge) system on a sander (PC). The vibration created by the PC is ridiculous when using at speed 6 for any length of time. The bogging of the PC doesn't help anything either, which is frequently the result of too much pressure exerted on the unit.
The answer is this, if you need to do correction, youre wasting your time with a PC. Just my opinion and experience. (P.S., I know that people use the PC and do some great work with it, I just find it a pain in the A$$ and time consuming/frustrating.)
Hopefully the UDM will alleviate some of the problems.
2 cents.
I agree that for heavy correction, you'll have a much easier time with a different machine vs the PC (which is why I often use a Rotary in those circumstances). But that has absolutely nothing to do with the Edge Adapter.
The product itself is designed and marketed as D/A specific. As hundreds of people who post here have shown, correction is certainly possible using the PC, and a lot of it has to do with cranking the machine to full speed. Yeah, it vibrates a lot - but given that the edge adapter was specifically designed to work with the PC 7424, if it can't handle the vibration the machine puts out, it's inherently a flawed design.
Correction might be a pain in the *** with a PC, but it still works just fine. Many people here have used PC's daily for years on end, running almost exclusively at speed 6, with a standard backing plate and pad and not experienced a failure. Given that the edge system is supposed to adequately replace the backing plate and pad combo, it's not out of the question to assume that the product should be able to handle the same speeds as a standard backing plate.
And again, I use the Edge system myself on my PC and have had zero problems so far. YMMV obviously, and to Edge's credit, they're one of the best companies to deal with out there and I doubt they'd put up any type of fight replacing a failed agapter. It's the fact that they are now claiming the product itself shouldn't be used at full speed that bothers me. And regarding the UDM, and if the adapters fail with a PC, they'll probably fail with the UDM as well.
