Edge 2k Pads Falling apart!!!!

Im not sure where to put this type of thread so i figured the detailing section would fit!!

Anyhow I purchased an Edge 2k pad system from autogeek about 4months ago probably right before the summer started. Right away i had a problem with the adaptor and had to return it for a new one.. Edge customer service was awesome and shipped a new one out right away along with the pad that i was using it with when it took a crap and burned the pad too... That was all great I got that taken care of and I was back to detailing happier than can be..

I maybe used this pad system once a week on mine or a customers cars..I always took the proper care of my pads as i washed and cleaned them with the XMT cleaner/conditioner that my kit came with...

This past Month Ive noticed there LItterly falling apart!!

My main 3 pads i use are the blue/green/white.. I know these pads are foam and dont last forever but ive got Lc and megs pads that i use more that dont show near as much wear and tear!!

All 3 of these pads i use are slowly disinigrating ive noticed. My white wax pad is the worst im guessing cause its the softest. It has chunks and holes taken out the middle along with the whole edge fraying away slowly... I have no idea how a chunk of foam can come off the pad and leave the pad lookign the way it does but its happening to all 3 of them!!

the edges are slowly disinigrating the material jsut flakes off like dust on a table..

Here is a pic after todays detail i think looking at these today really pissed me off and am wanting new pads but i highly doubt ill be bying edge pads again!!

I know if u hit edges or something like windshield sprayers, it'll tear the pad up. Some of my LC flat orange pads did that when I got to close to a hood sprayer thing.

I had some disintegration of the foam on the face of my blue pad which looked much like the pads in your picture (especially the orange one). However, my problem was caused when I left a pad with XMT Pad Cleaner on it for several weeks without rinsing it off. The pad cleaner literally ate the foam.

First, let edge know, they have first rate CS.

Second, are you using this on a PC, if so, good luck, I had a terrible time using edge by PC, it ate 3-4 adapters and a number of pads. I use the edge system for my rotary and it is flawless, highly reccomend it by rotary. The vibration from the PC punishes the edge adapters, however, your problems with the foam seem odd. My pads literally flew apart, yours are disentegrating.

edge was supposed to have made a new adapter, its on their website with details on how to get the new one if it was purchased before a certain date.

The new adapter came out almost a year ago. He got his adapter in the last four months so he has the new one.

It has always perplexed me that for a few people the Edge system is completely unreliable and falls apart on them everytime they use it. Then for other people (such as myself) it is 100% reliable. I've been using the same pads & adapter for the last year or so without issue. Granted, I don't use them every week and I never run my PC on speed 6 (I just see no reason too I would rather step up the aggressiveness of my pad/polish combo).

I've noticed that too. I was using Edge when I was doing correction by PC, so I always used it on 5-6. Edge implied that the system really shouldnt be used by PC for correction, I took their advice and picked up a BP/CCS 5" pads and it worked great. Picked up a rotary, used edge, and never looked back. I never use my PC for major correction and have had zero problems with BP/LC CCS.

The main reason I've had that problem with pads is because I've gone over emblems with my Cyclo (which is what I use the Edge system with) and the orange cutting pads are most likely to be damaged in that way.

Thanks everyone for your comments but I never go over any emblems with my pads or the winshield squirters..I just get the pad as close as i can to them so that i do not cause damage to the emblem or the pad has always been my thinking..

I do take the PC up to 5 sometimes but hardly ever and never for a long amount of time either so im really not sure what the deal is why there falling apart like this..:wall

LIke i mentioned before I have Lc and Megs pads that i use MORE than these that Look pratically brand new compared to these ones...

So edge told u not to use there own product for PC??? and to use LC CCS!!!

I also have a dewalt rotary that i use these same pads with so u say they work with rotary and dont fall apart well thats not the case here cuase there falling apart no matter what tool i put them on!!

I'm sure that's not the case. Likely what they said is that the PC puts more stress on the Edge system than a rotary. This is due to the random jiggling motion of the D/A as opposed to the smooth rotating motion of a rotary buffer.

However, I would imagine these additional stresses would be experienced by velcro pads as well.

LOL, no not at all, sorry I may not have been clear. They implied that I shouldnt use the 2K pads on a PC for correction, therefore, I picked up some LC CCS pads. Get ahold of Edge, I am sure they will take care of you.

clean your pads regularly , use a brush, rinse them in cool water after every car, spin them dry on a rotary. (pc will tear them apart at speed 6 and full of water) hang dry untill needed.

My EDGE blue foam pads are much darker than yours? I've had for years and I've cleaned & used them dozens of times, but they are still the same color they were when they were brand new. Your's seem really faded. Maybe the pad cleaner you're using is deteriorating them and causing your problems?

The XMT Pad Cleaner is some reallly harsh stuff, at least I thought so. You definitely dont want to breath it in, and it was a killer on my hands, I had to use gloves when using it.

I use the 6 inch pads with the dynabrade attachment on a rotary. I just never go faster than 2500 rpm on the rotary and the edge 2k works great. Never had a problem.

Ya ive seen others pads as well and there all the same color!! Mine immediatly faded after the first wash..

I dont use much of the cleaner ive still got almost the whole botlle left. I knew that stuff was strong as soon as i sprayed it on the pad the first time and couldnt breathe for a min or two!!

So from then ive only used a couple sprays and immediatly washed the pads and they come right clean just FADED..:(

Can anyone find me the CS # for EDGE or the AIM addy i think thats how i talked to them last time i searched the forum and cant seem to come across it..
