Edge 2k for Cyclo review

So it's been far to long since I've been around here and much longer that I've actually participated , (thats what having a 2 year old does) :chuckle:

So I finally have the time to review a new product at least to me , the edge 2k for the cyclo.

I am a die hard cyclo fan and have been using the machine exclusively since 2004 , with the exception of pulling out the rotary when it's needed. I love the cyclo and had anyone have told me there was any flaws in the machine I would said they where crazy. No the machine did have one irritation , pad centering any one who has used the cyclo knows if they are not dead center the pads will rub and you get pad friction which creates dust. A nuisance a worst but nothing to cry about. Now about the Edge 2k system I've used it before on my PC and honestly did not like it , first I used it with the original adapter intended for the rotary which was far to long and created too much vibration , fast forward to the shorter adapter and it became a better system , personally I never liked it on my PC so I used it on my rotary where I found it to be a great asset because I could go from an 8" pad to a 6" with the click of a button rather then a backing plate change. So at that time I had found a plate for the Edge 2k system in my shop it was for my rotary where it worked great for me.

Recently I got wind of the possibility of 4" pads which at minimum I was happy to have them to add to the versatility of the fast change pads for my rotary , a 4" pad on my rotary would be great for spot repairs and defects. Then I heard Edge was working on the system for the cyclo , my first thoughts where no way because the adapters will add to much length you'll lose the great balance the machine has. So I honestly dismissed the thought of the Edge 2k system for the cyclo.

Well I now must humbly say I was completely wrong , I have been using the system on my cyclo for about a month now and I am more them impressed, this system has been a revolution in my shop , not only do I have the quick change pads on my cyclo but being that the pads are double sided that too reduces wasted time. And any pad centering issues are 100% gone the pad go on perfect every time never touch and never create any pads dust. As for the balance thing well the Edge 2k system has changed that , it's made it BETTER!

Apparently the adapters are just bit short then the standard Velcro holder and pad which reduced vibration , funny thing is I never thought the cyclo vibrated all that bad but it vibrated even less with this system. So I can say I am throughly impressed with this system and highly recommend it to anyone who is a cyclo user and those contemplating one , I strongly suggest you invest in this system too.

Thanks for the review, actually I am still considering whether should I use this system on my cyclo and you just helped me made the decision.

Heh heh, turn-about's fair play huh? Yeah, as soon as I go through some of the (many) pads I already have I plan to try this system.

Those metal posts still give me the heebie-geebies. :nervous2:

I'm right there with you Scott , to be honest the Edge system never touched my car or any customers car until I knew it wasn't going to do damage. I have a hood setup in my shop for testing so I used the Edge pads on there first. After two weeks of off the wall testing like sitting on the cyclo to see if I could get the metal adapters to hit the body in anyway shape or form. I even ground down a set of pads so they would have less material , still could not get the adapter to hit the paint. So I'm pretty confident that the design is throughly thought out to insure they simply can't touch. On a side note I took the foam completely off one set , which was not an easy task , so I don't think they'll be coming of on there own.

Scott , I've been absent for a while did you switch to the cyclo? If your using that machine already, I can say you will love these being mobile , it makes changing pads so easy , stupid fast. On top of that you essential have two sets of pads in hand which is also very convenient.

And then there are the plastic disks where the two pads are joined together too...

I've queried both Anthony O. and Irene at TOL about these (potential) issues and both are adamant that there won't be any problems. I lean towards the "not broke/don't fix" viewpoint and also towards "if the potential for problems isn't there, then there won't be any *realized* problems no matter what" but I gotta say that my fears are about as allayed as they can be without first-hand experience with the things. After what detailbarn posted about pulling them apart, *I* am convinced...but it's easy for me to talk, huh? You'd be the guy taking them to customers' vehicles and shouldering the risk :nixweiss

Hi Accumulator Sir, I will try out those Edge Pads for you, just send me a couple hundred bucks for pads and testing and I'll report my findings promptly. Thanks

Ah c'mon, pretty please! Actually I'd like to get busy detailing again, the weather has got to get a little better before people will drop some change for a detail - only to have it rain the next day. I hate idle times, guess I'll be cutting tree limbs this Saturday.
