Edge 2K Adapter Failure

I hope this works out for you. As I said previously, I truly feel the foam itself is second to none. For me I was not even getting through one detail when the pads failed. This was also supposedly with the new and improved pads. I do not know if the adhesive has changed since then, but if it has I would entertain the idea of going back to DTD. The foam is that good!

I had intended not to call, but a PM from both Aaron and another poster, prompted me to make that call anyway.
Good to know you made the effort to contact Aaron, regardless of how it happened. Every single response in your thread, positive or negative, suggested you should for the simple reason that Aaron's customer service is outstanding. Please understand, I've never actually purchased anything from Edge directly. All of my Edge pad sets, both Edge2000 and velcro, were purchased from another vendor. Any replacements came directly from Aaron's pocket. Customer service usually doesn't get much better than that.

He really made good on the repairs that I had done too!
With true professionals it does get better. This is what its all about. If your car had not been damaged by the adapter failure you would have never heard from me in this thread. After so many close-calls with Edge2000 pad failures, the adapter failure I had camethisclose to gouging my front quarter panel. For some reason knowing you had the same type of failure and it did cause damage just didn't sit right. Even so, I can probably think of about a thousand better ways to get my point across.

Congratulations on a proper resolution to your problem. Aaron, your customer service is a testament to the way things should be done. Your products may not have worked for me, but I sincerely hope they work well for others.

Just an update that I received the check, the new (shorten) adaptor and a set of 4 pads from Aaron over the past weeks. My routine dictates when I would do the next polish, so I have yet to use the new adaptor.

I could be way off base here and if I am I apologize but from what I read here if I ever do get a PC I won't be using the Edge pads/System. With all the failures it's reading/sounds like the customers are the company's testers. I would think these problems would be worked out before the pads/system were mass marketed. These problems don't sound like they're coincidences or happenstances. They sound like material and design flaws. Then again what do I know about mechanical engineering I'm a chemical guy.

We have to keep in mind that the Edge 2000 system was originally designed for use with rotary polishers using a one piece adapter. I have been reading about Edge pads here on Detail City and from what I read, some Detail City members demanded/requested that the adapters be made for the PC dual action polisher.

The Edge has tested there system before release but in house testing may not equal real world abuse. I bet that the percentage of adapter failures was minimal compared to the amount that performed great. Just like the evening news, you hear more about the bad news cause good things just aren't as newsworthy.
Speaking of material and design flaws, I know for a fact that EVERY foam pad manufacturer has experienced glue failure when it comes to the loop backing on foam pads. Backing pads also have been known to dig into the foam and even the foam itself has disintegrated.

The Edge pads are very high quality and and The Edge 2000 System is a great idea. These guys have been constantly making improvements and are willing to stand behind their products with excellent customer service. No pad system is perfect.

Thanks Jngr that's why posted. If I ever do decide to buy a PC I want to know what I'm getting and the problems I might/will encounter.

When I bought my PC I considered buying the Edge system. There were a lot of positives easy centering, quick change of pads, and the ability to use both sides of the pad. However, I ended up buying an old fashioned velcro backing plate and LC pads because I was concerned about pushing the adaptor through the pad and onto the paint. What holds the piece the adaptor mates with into the pad anyway? Is it glue? I'm not bashing. I'm just curious. I've heard a lot of positive things about the Edge pads' foam and would like to feel comfortable buying them the next time I am looking for pads.

I have one of the new adapters and it is much better. I have had problems in the past with glue failures which almost cause damage to my car. I was on the phone with arron and he made things right. I like the system because i can change the size of my pads with out changing backing plates. I normally use 6 inch pads for both my PC and rotary but if i'm doing a truck I can just swap on my 8 inch pad and go to town. Now I'm hoping that he will mach a size smaller like the wolfgang 3 inch pad but time will tell. I'm all about the edge system and have not found a flaw yet that has not been address. I have the old adapter which never failed but the newwer one is better hands down.

I have to agree with Rabbi on this one. As nice as the customer support was, in the end I felt like I was doing their product testing. Testing a merchant's product is not a big deal if I know that I am testing their product. I would gladly test on my vehicle. But to unknowingly test their product on a customer's vehicle is a recipe for disaster!
