Edge 2000 users, if you could buy only 3 pads...

It arrived!!!!

Wow, its a hell of a deal!!!

LOVE the cobra MF's it came with, didnt realize they where that nice!

Only downfall (if it really even is one) is there no polishing pad, its the only thing edge is missing.

Well so much for that purchase, my adapter lost its bearings.

First time using it and it only made it through half my car.

I'm really sorry to hear that. Occasionally, I read on here about someone having that problem. Don't worry though, the adapter is gauranteed for life. Call Aaron at Edge and he will send you a new one. I'm sure he'd also like to talk to you so that he can try to figure out what happened to your adapter.

I sent an e-mail to both autogeek and edge last night immediately after it happened and still no word back from either yet. I also sent them both pics of it.

You will. I promise you that.

Im extremely dissapointed, i LOVE this system.

And here i thought i would no longer have to worry about BP's shredding or pad backing coming off anymore. Now im in the same boat i was in with the traditional BP's and pads.

The problem you are experiencing is something I have read about on occasion here on Autopia. It's a very strange problem in that a few people seem to have their adapter fail after detailing one or two cars whereas the majority of people's adapters never fail. I've had mine for over a year and have polished countless cars without it failing.

If I was stranded on a deserted island(w/electricty) with 100 cars to detail and I could choose only 3 pads, here's my choice:

Yellow wool

Yellow Foam

Blue Foam

With these 3 pads, almost any problem can be corrected from the heaviest defect removal to the lightest swirl. You can adjust from there with the product being used to hit everything.

Ive read all the threads concerning this same problem. It seems as though there are only a hand full of people who have this problem so that is good.

Jason at AG PMed me and told me if Edge dont get back to me today then call AG and they will get me fixed up. So im a little relieved, but just a little.

My concerns/questions at this point:

Has this problem been solved?

How would i know if my new one is gonna do the same thing?

I also have an adapter for my makita, does this one have the same problem?

All i was doing is giving my car a light polishing with megs #82 and edge blue pad. Obviously i wasnt giving it any pressure and not being aggresive. I got half way around my car and went to flip the pad over to finish the rest of the car and as soon as i removed the pad the bearings fell out. My heart sunk and my excitment vanished.

This is why I suggested you call Aaron at Edge. He's an extremely friendly guy (I've talked with him once or twice) and I'm sure he'd be happy to chat with you about your situation. He'd likely want to go over what happened and try to determine the cause. It might be a problem with something you're doing or it might be a problem with the adapter. Either way I have no doubt after talking with him that you'll 1) be properly taken care of and 2) that you'll have had every question answered.

I talked to Aaron breifly through e-mail and he is sending me a new one asap. I do plan on talking to him further to determine the cause or if he can tell what i did wrong. I love this system to much to just give up on it, i want it to work, i need it to work.

David, I hope things are fine with you.

What Manufacturer are you talking about for the pads:

Yellow wool

Yellow Foam

Blue Foam

That has a bearing on this picture.

Coupe I think Aaron is in Vegas right now (vcation I suppose), so give him a break. I had my doubts and still do, about how the edge products will be and react in a normal /commercial atmosphere. If you remember I brought up some negative aspects of this system .

However he offered David Feramoni and myself adapters to have a look see and report back to the Autopia forum. This is something I intend to do regardless of condition, if it works or doesn't is a function of the original post. I don't not lie and never will relative to a product or anything else for that matter.

If Aaron is reading this, forward the adapter you were sending me to "Coupe", his need outweighs mine at this point, I can wait a while with no negative problems.

The only foam pads I use are manufactured by EDGE and privately labeled through Auto Magic. I really like the jump from yellow to blue. It's a cure all for most foam pad repairs. I also have a super-duper-ultra-mega soft final finishing pad I pull out on *special* occasions. :chuckle:

As usual, I am predictable of forgetting something.

Coupe, don't throw away the broken part, it will be a great aid for the engineers to determine and eliminate problems like this again, just send it back to Aaron with a letter of explanation.

I've used mostly EDGE foam pads in a very high volume commerical environment for well over a decade straight and have NEVER witnessed ANY problems with a single one!! Trust me they work and they also hold up too. Some of my personal final finishing foam pads are over 5 years old and still have lots of life left in them. I think people run into problems when they start cleaning them the way they weren't intended to. Just like any other product.

I don't think you can judge the durability of the Edge 2000 system based on this issue. It seems to be only a small percentage of people who experience it. The majority of Edge users from what I've seen and personally experienced get an almost indefinite life out of adapters.

I've had my Edge pads for over year now and while I don't detail professionally I do maintain several cars and do a lot of detailing demos and detailing assists for guys in my car club. So, my pads have seen plenty of action. They all clean up to look brand new and my adapter looks and functions perfectly.

I'm sure he has enough to go around, but that's a really nice thing to say. :bigups

Dave, I have a local distributor (found at a recent car show in town) that stocks Edge pads, I know we've discussed Auto Magic pads and they are made by Edge - so my question to you is - the three pads, yellow wool, yellow foam and blue foam, would they be the same on Edge products? I'm assuming yes...and I'm looking for 8" pads for my rotary, I have enough PC pads to last 20 years!
