Edge 2000 pads

AWD + 5k = :)
Hey guys, I've been using the Edge 2000 pads this summer on a few cars. I've been using the pc for a few months now. I was using Optimum polish yesterday with a yellow pad, and I was having a tough time getting rid of any swirls. Also, I started noticing it was very difficult to even get the pad to spin at all, even at speed 6 without much pressure on it at all. Is there some reason for this? I assume that I do want the pad spinning. That is the correct method to remove swirls, correct?

Thanks.

How bad is your car??? I have noticed that the rougher the paint is the less the pad will spin. But seeing your using the most aggressive pad with a polish i tend to think your pushing the limists of what your doing

The car was not too bad. Maybe it's something I'm doing wrong. I notice that I have to keep going to the yellow pad and ssr2.5 to remove anything. I don't think I've been able to get rid of swirls with anything less. I always star out with the blue or green pad, but neither of them seem to make a difference.

You'll want to let up on the pressure you're putting on the pad. The PC works a lot better if you lift up on it until the pad is both spinning and vibrating instead of just vibrating. The Optimum with a yellow pad would probably be a little grabby but you should lift up on it, otherwise it won't do any real work. Did you clay beforehand? If you didn't then that might help you, if you did then you'll want to use less pressure (you may actually end up holding the pad at the surface so that no weight is on it until it gets up to speed).

Yeah, I clayed, and I was barely putting any pressure on the pad at all. Hmmm...

Maybe I'm just doing something wrong. Why don't you let me watch you do a detail sometime so I can pick up some pointers. ;)

Thanks for the replies guys. I guess I'll just chalk it up to being somewhat of a begginer and just keep practicing. :)

Where in Columbus are you? I'm off to college at OSU in late September but I could show you some stuff before then if you want.

Maybe I'll give it a shot again this weekend. The roof of my car could sure use it. I'll try it and see how it goes.

BTW, I'm in the Easton area. I think we could use a Columbus detailing day. :)

Thanks guys,

Steve
