EBay snipe program

Does anyone use an EBay snipe program? I'm not interested in debating whether sniping is ethical so leave that part of it out please. I used to have SnipeRight but they went belly up and looking for another one that people have actually used and had success with.

how reliable are these sniping services? my cousin told me some company he goes through, but after reading the forums of how sometimes it messes up and bids on a different auction, i was reluctant to use them.
 
I use hammersnipe.com. It's free for limited use per week or month. I don't do all that much on ebay anymore, but I've used this as a snipe tool when I've needed one for years.

That's the advantage of using Hammersnipe. It's on their servers, not your computer.

A program that resides on a server owned by the sniping company that you put in an EBay item and the amount you are willing to pay. The server places a bid with your user ID to win the item (if it is under your max amount) a few seconds before the auction ends so that you stand a better chance of winning the item. This way you don't have to worry about being online at the auction end and as it is automated it can place a bid with 5 or 6 seconds left so that you get in the "last word".

You can but that can get you into an expensive proxy battle for an item. For example, you are willing to pay $100 for some car wax that the current bid is $5. You enter your proxy max at $100. Another bidder enters a proxy max for $90. Here comes buyer #3 who enters a bid for $6. You and buyer #2 immediately start proxy bidding until you get top bid of $91 well before the auction ends.



If you use a snipe then when bidder #3 places his $6 bid only the other proxy buyer enters a proxy bid of $7 to be top bidder. Then 6 seconds before the auction ends your snipe fires your bid of $8. The proxy cannot fire in the remaining 4 or 5 seconds so you win with a bid of $8 and save $83.
 
I have been using auctinsniper for a few years now, works very well, I have had no issues and I've bought too much stuff. For me the benefits of using a sniper are two fold:



1. You don't raise the price in bidding war that starts early

2. I don't bid more than I really wanted to just because I want to win the auction, yeah, we all say we won't but I know a lot of people that get caught up in the moment.



Jbidder looks awesome though, the search feature is amazing.

Yes. For me tha't not a problem because it's always on anyway, retreiving emails, processing orders, etc. However, the program still works even if the Mac is in sleep mode.



The program is also free and your info is private, not residing on someone else's server which may or may not be secure.
 
While it's all well and good to have a automated program to do the deed, I just wait till there is less than 30 seconds and place my max bid.



Ebay is insanely ridculous when it comes to bidding on stuff. I've seen where people bid up the price on things so that it now costs more than going to the store and buying it locally (with the tax) or ordering it online (and paying shipping). So snipping is the way to go if you want to get something your price.



I always check both before deciding how much I'm going to bid. If I can't get something for more than 35% off it's not worth the hassle of dealing with Flea-bay and unknown people selling things.

Ebay has taken a turn for the worse. The prices are getting higher and higher and service worse and worse. There was a time where everything was dirt cheap on ebay, but these days I find myself getting things elsewhere.
 
Yeah, it's gone too commerical. So now Brick and Motar stores have a presence there. Things were better when it first started out.
 
Won my item using auctinsniper for about a 1/3rd of what it would cost new and I didn't have to be anywhere near my computer.

I usually just snipe manually as well. I only use hammersnipe when there's something I really want and my schedule won't allow me to be online at the time. Of course, sniping is popular enough now that I've seen prices double or more in the last 10 seconds.
