Dynabrade Dual Action Buffing Head

:chuckle: Did you order yours yet?

I haven't... the wife has been keeping too close of an eye on the checking account balance.

Boy, is she gonna be surprised when I order that CRSpotless from costco.

:bolt

Edit: Apparently, she *has* been listening to what I've been telling her about car detailing... I just talked to her about the Dynabrade attachment, and she said, "you can't get one of those until your PC stops working." I was stunned.

I can't decide whether that's good or bad. I think I'd rather my wife be in the dark about it all. I think.

The unit we have was close to $130.00 when first bought.

Not being all knowing nor all seeing I never saw where this particular unit was $82. Thanks for the heads up.

Anthony

I think they are usually still pretty pricey, but that place has a great price on them. Welcome.

My Metabo developed a loud gear noise after a year of use. I think it's due to the dynabraid attachment. The attachment is a quality tool. I think it's been cheapened a little since I purchased mine. I too cut the backing plate so i could use smaller pads.

Did anyone order one of these from SJ tools?

I did on the 17th and have yet to receive it! and the e-mail with them has been less than understandable! now today they want me to pay 129.00 for #61379 that they have listed on their site for 98.95.

Thing that gets me is I have a confirmation number and my card have already been charged. its like going to the store today and buying a loaf of bread for 1.00 and tomorrow you to buy another and the price has gone up so they charge the difference on the one you bought the day before.

They are also very slow with return e-mails they do not list a phone number to call

Hmm...This looks interesting. I don't know, I guess it could save some time by only utilizing one machine, however, I think for me, I will just use my rotary and if I need to, I will break out the Flex (which this seems to be somewhat similar to except for the orbital rotation) or the PC.

Sorry to resurrect this old thread, but I'm confused, as far as the term "forced rotation." Does that mean rotary only, or as a flex with both "forced rotation" and orbital action? The website leads me to believe that it will either be a rotary or a freewheeling orbital, but not a forced rotation orbital. What, O what is the truth??? Also, the pics look like the dynabrade will accept PC backing plates. Correct?

It will do either a random orbital OR a forced rotation that is offset.

What that means is that the backing plate DOES NOT spin true (like a traditional rotary). Instead, it is offset 3/8" thus creating a 3/4" diameter orbit.

Although you could categorize it in the same realm as the Flex XC 3401 VRG, its action is not the exact same pattern (the Flex loops inward whereas the Dynabrade loops outward).

I would categorize it as a DUAL MODE machine, in that, it can act as EITHER a random orbital OR a forced rotation orbital.

Yes, you read it right.

They are not relaying the fact that it is not a TRUE ROTATION, but instead an OFFSET ROTATION.

Yes.

I get it now. Thanks for your quick response KB...you da man!! I guess, as a practical matter, it makes no difference to the paint whether it loops inward or outward. I've been looking for a cheaper substitute for the flex. Also, I may have just found a use for my old HF rotary! I'm looking forward to your paper!

Thought I'd bring this up to the front since there is renewed interest. I went to their web site, not all that user friendly but it appeared that you could order one for like 53 bucks.

($98)?? - did you go to their website?

Ok, thanks for the tip, but I find it strange that the company is selling it cheaper than their distributors !

Now at $53 it would make a great substitute to even maybe the Flex if used with a cheap under $100 rotary, I would even dare say a $20 grinder if you really getting cheap less the speed control. I wouldn't use it with a high precision rotary machines like a Flextool, Makita or Metabo as the counter weight would kill the bearing and shaft and create play.

It's a quality piece of equipment... shouldn't pose much of a problem for any decent rotary. Now, the weight of the pad... that's a different story if you're using something larger or heavier than a 9" double-sided pad. I'll be using it with a Makita 9227C. At such a low price... I bought one, too!

Only reason I haven't bought this yet is concerns for my 3403's gear box. Still mulling over getting it and seeing if it'll take it.

Does the Dynabrade have an interchangeable backing plate on it, or are you stuck with using one size pad? If so, what size do you have to use with it? I like smaller pads...

Pretty sure in the early days they used a 2 or 4 bolt attachment.

I vaguely recall a conversation at NACE with Jason Rose and the Dynabrade guy.

We walked over to their booth to confirm the switchover.

For the past couple of years, I see only the newer ones that use a standard 5/16"-24 thread:

Easy swap!

Very cool, Kevin, thank you!

Yeah... I asked because it seemed like someone around here posted a review of the dynabrade quite a long while back, and they stated that it didn't have an interchangeable backing plate. Glad to see they made the change.

Now to try and decide between keeping my 3403 and seeing if it'll handle the dynabrade, or just selling it and getting a 9227... I really like how light the 3403 is; throwing a dynabrade on it would be wonderful if the gears would take the vibration.
