Dust removal?

This black paint in combiation with the fiberglass body making static, is making me nuts. I drive the car anywhere and it looks like a chia-pet by the time I get there.

What's the thing to be doing to get the dust off? I keep final finish and a MF in he trunk, but damn. I seem to remember different guys at shows using some type of duster lookin thing. I just cant seem to visualize success that way either, as it seem like anything that touches the paint other than MF and a liquid product, will show. A back pack blower in the trunk? LOL. 2nd business op there eh?

I appreciate any ideas. :cool:

Im loving the awesome black paint job, I dig working the products and finish, but Im hating on it a little too. It's like my brother, you cant take it anywhere.

I know there are some products that are less static producing, but I feel your pain. My murano is notorious for collecting dust like a magnet. I just have some detailing spray, spray & wipe and a couple MF towels with me at all times.
 
I use a California Duster followed by a QD. Some people will tell you that you'll get marring that way. Of course, if you want to bust out the jeweler's loop and inspect your finish after every time you drive or touch the paint, feel free.

One other thing to do would be to check into the so-called anti static QD's. Also, try and make sure your MF towels don't have a lot of static build up from you cleaning them.
 
I will look to see if Final Inspection is an anti static material. I will put the MF's in the fryer with an anti static sheet. I wonder if they coud be misted with Static Guard, or if that would be looking for trouble.
 
Having had two jet black cars, I used my cal duster a lot and S&W. Another thing that I found helped, was the anti-static product line by Finish Kare FK1 you can look them up online. Their anti static QD is excellent for helping cut down on dust

I probably would advise against putting them in the dryer with any kind of sheet. Too much risk of it being fabric softener related and "clogging" up the MF.

The way I do it now, and it seems to work well, is to get them "almost" dry and then let them air dry the rest of the way.

Try the "delicate" drying cycle if you have that option. Otherwise select the lowest temp and the shortest cycle. It is OK if they are still slightly damp when you take them out. If they are completely dry and full of static, grip two corners and give them a sharp "snap" that will help with your static.

Yeah that! Don't use any fabric softener. Add some 5% white vinegar in your rinse cyle. The vinegar will help release soap residue which will "stiffen" fabrics. Check your rinse water for soap, if necessary add an additional rinse cycle or even a complete cycle w/o soap. Speaking of soap try for a "free" soap w/o additives and use the lighter end of the suggested amount.

I had static problems with my MF towels but when I started using the vinegar rinse and drying till they were still damp and just use air dry to finish I have not had a static problem.
When removing from the dryer to fold I always give each towel a couple of sharp snaps.
