Dust, Dust, Dust

I know that black cars are KILLER when it comes to maintaining them. I just painted my garage and Iâ€â„¢m planning on installing the VCT tiles once the weather gets a little bit warmer. Iâ€â„¢m absolutely amazed about how much dust collects on my black corvette. Iâ€â„¢ve washed and waxed her and pulled her into the garage and within 2-day its completely covered in an incredible amount of dust. I use my California Duster but it seems like a loosing fight. Will it help once the concrete slab is covered with the tiles or is this just the way its going to be?

I know there are worse problems but well â€Â¦.. you knowâ€Â¦.

How well is your garage "sealed up" ? I know the one I just bought has a lot of gaps by the garage door...and the window is well....missing..had a decent amount of snow blow in during the winter months. Actually had to shovel a little bit. :o

When I've used my neighboors garage (also concrete), I've had no probs with dust. That garage was pretty tight though, no gaps.

Not looking forward to the pollen either. :doh

The house is a new construction, about a year and a half old. the garage is sealed pretty good. aluminum garage door that lets a little light and such through.

Hmm, sounds like your garage is sealed up pretty good. I'm not sure how tiling a floor will change the dust. :nixweiss

What did you use to detail your car ? I know after I buff out Zaino, I get enough static electricity to make the hair on my arm stand up. It then becomes a dust magnet for a few days until my next wash...which seems to neutralize it and the dust accumulation drops off. Kind of like if you have hair with static electricity and then wet it.

Otherwise, dusting is just a part of life. Especially for those with cars outside 24/7. It's not uncommon to use a CCD and/or QD every day. I hear your frustration with it though....

so far i've been using adams butter wax from west coast corvettes. waxed twice so far. i havent done anything other than that. like i said - there are bigger problems than dust.

New concrete does tend to 'dust' for a while dependant upon what accelerators they use in the mix, the good news is that it will go away.

SK2003TypeS- Zaino's Z8 seems to cut down on static

You could try setting up a cheap air filtration system. You can buy a box fan, a cardboard double-walled box, and some furnace filters. The cardboard box should be the same dimensions as the box fan. Duct-tape the fan to one open side of the box. Then you put two-three furnace filters in line past the fan and set the fan to pull air through the filters. The whole thing should be light enough to mount on the ceiling if you want. It should keep your garage pretty dust free and the total cost is less than $30.
