duragloss paste wax 104, dissapointment

Well, I got a jar of it a little while ago, but hadn't tried it yet. This thread got me out to try it.

1-Yep, it's like mayo.

2-Yep, it's sticky. Not a slick, easy spreading wax. Kind of grippy, yet it does spread fairly well and not too tough to get applied fairly thinly, but not "Klasse/Zaino thin". A little can be spread a long ways.

3-Yep, not the easiest wax to remove. In the shade, applied to 1/2 of the car, then gone back to remove, it was still "gummy." Def. not a wipe on/off product. The longer it was given to dry, the easier it was to remove. Used a bit in the sun, but not on burning hot paint. Hazed faster, still a bit gummy in removal, but didn't bake into the finish. Came off fairly easily.

I found that it seemed to remove fastest when there was an initial "breaking" wipe, then a flip of the cloth and a buffing afterwards. Clogged the cloth fairly quickly too, I feel. I'd recommend having more cloths than you'd normally use with this wax.

I applied by hand. Seemed to blend/hide/erase/mask or whatever minor marring. Added slickness, but not "flies slide off when they try to land" slickness.

This was just a quick use, first time, haven't looked at it in full sun etc., so this is just a brief summation of my initial impression.

So I took it back to car quest and they gave me a people even though I had used the wax. Since they didnt have the 105 polish, I bought the 111 instead and to try it out....Very easy prodcut to work with

That bothers me that they're claiming the product doesn't even have a 3 year shelf life. Even if that was my only wax (like any other Autopian, I have a decent collection), there's a very good chance it would last me longer than 3 years if I was using appropriately thin layers.

it is not really a wax per say...it is a blend of wax and polymers....products will not last forever....Zaino zfx has a shelf life of 18 months and the polishes 3 years ..some of Meg's sealants will seperate and spoil after a year or so if not used alot...cold storage or hot storage can ruin a product...it is chemical break down...4* will seperate and spoil..alot of the synthetics will not last forever if they are not used ....they will seperate...so give them a shake once in awhile...

I have a bottle of Liquid Sov I bought last year...I went to use it this year and it seperated and curdeled..will not go back to original state...and was kept in a 70 degree room yearly...

Caranuba will last longer as long as you keep it air tight...if not it will get moldy..and oily..

waxes will last longer than synthetics...

i was at my local carquest today (went in to buy some 1/4" green masking tape) and noticed they just got the whole duragloss line brand new in the boxes and saw them on the cart ready to be put out. so naturally... i bought another AW :D and almost bought the paste wax and 64oz wash. anyone else have any experience with the paste wax?...

PASS on the paste wax....I used it a couple times..one time it worked good for me....the other times it was a pain to remove....seen others also had a hard time...I even called DG about it..they said do one panel at a time ..wipe on wipe off....

It does give a nice look..but not worth the trouble removing....

The one time it worked good for me was when I did it over 111 to see what it looked like...the other times it was on fresh polished paint and it was a bear the remove...had to use Fast Clean and Shine to remove it....

So I would pass on it...every other product worked flawlesly for me except 104....maybe when they come out with the new products they will retire 104...

Not all paint is created equal... What works very well on some paints, maybe difficult to remove or cause hazing on another...

I'm not familar with 104 but I give most paste waxes 15 minutes before even attempting to buff them off, unless advised differently.
