Dupont #7 - anyone ever use this back in the day?

I remember a similar can but it was not the one in your pic............

Sure did. They also had a powder carwash soap that I used lots of.

Johnson wax also had a liquid wax that was a big seller.

Simonize paste wax was considered one of the best products available at that time. Man, was it a PIA to use.



When you hear someone talk about the "good old days", don't pay much attention. These are the good days, right now.

I used that many times , back in the 70's. How lucky we are now. I wonder if they'll laugh at us in 30 years for using Zaino, Klasse, P21S etc...

I used that stuff.

RainDance was my favorite for quite a few years after that.

Did some time with mid-1980's Liquid Glass, etc, etc, and

am now a Zaniac.

I used to use the "old" Blue Coral Cleaner(liquid) and Paste Wax. This stuff did an excellent job---but what a PITA to use!! You think you get streaks from certain products, this stuff would streak at a mere sniff of sunlight!! And the smell was a very, very strong solvent smell!! It is not like the Blue Coral products that we have today! I do not like the new Blue Coral stuff--IMHO.



I have a metal quart can of the old Pro Wax Aircraft wax; I will have to find it and take a picture of it for the site.



I just love the stuff we use today!! I do not miss the "old" days!!:up
 
DETAILKING- Thanks for the memories! One more old-time-product-user-back-in-the-day here. I used that Dupont #7 polish as recently as the the mid-80's.



Sorta wish I'd saved all those (real) old product tins my Dad and I used to have around..but one of them rusted out, leaking some vile stuff everywhere, so out they went. I DO still have my old cans of Pro "blue" (cleaner) and "yellow" (straight) wax, from back before they had their fancy numbering system.



CharlesW- Yeah, it's pretty incredible how much easier today's products are. My Mother used to warn me to avoid Simonize like the plague (she and her sisters were sorta into detailing since back in the 40's). Meg's #7 is about the only old-timer anyone's still using (maybe because it was always pretty easy to use). What you said about these being the "good old days" :up



2hotford- A friend of mine whose family owns a funeral home used to use the Blue Coral on the old, single-stage GM black on the hearses, etc. It gave a VERY impressive look, subtly different from what you see today, but what a job!

I'm not sure if you're joking or not, but I did put Auri on my Blue 88 Civic in '91.



It absolutely destroyed the paint. It looked like I painted a clearcoat on the car with a paintbrush, which I guess is basically what I did.



I spent $200 at a body shop to remove it.



Did you actually put this on your car?
 
I used a lot of Dupont #7, thought it was pretty good stuff. Sometimes I would follow it with Final Finish swirl remover. Then I discovered Liquid Ebony swirl remover, it worked better, especially on black.



Anybody remember when Meguiars had a 2 part wax in the black bottles? One bottle was a cleaner, the other was a wax. It was a ton of work but it really made my black 57 Ford convert shine. I think the bottle said "competition finish".
 
I also used Dupont#7 It was a very good polish. It was used a lot as a precleaner for Simoniz. It came on the market in 1925as a polish for the then new Duco paints. My uncle would use it on his truck right over the dirt. It would shine like crazy. I guess paints were tougher back then

Yes paints had lead back then ..pre-early sixtys....



Old #7 was a good friend....the funeral was more like a celebration....no more wearing off the paint on edges or on the fins of the Caddys....:D
