Dual Action Polisher vs. Your Own Hand?

I was wondering what would be better ib the long run. I am not trying to save money, I just want the best job obviously. I have always done it by hand and have seen the results that you get but haven tyet tried to use the dual polisher. I have many years of experience with the famous dewalt orbital buffer but would like to expand my power tools a little more and was wondering if this is a good one to purchase.

I've been messing with wax and polish for over 40 years. The Porter Cable dual action polisher is the greatest thing out there for a hobbiest detailer.

99.9% of the detailing population cannot achieve the uniformity of a PC when waxing/polishing by hand...no way.

You'll be real surprised when you first use it. There is a big difference in the finished product when using a machine like the PC.

Anyone even half way serious about “detailing should lay out the $$ for the machine.

Unless you’re Scottwax an orbital polisher will give much better results than hand application

~Hope this helps~

Experience unshared; is knowledge wasted…/

The biggest change is the number of options available to you when you have a PC in your arsenal. When you have a scratch to fix, for example...if you only have your hand, you have a limited number of solutions, but with the PC and a number of pads and products, you have a variety of solutions to tackle the job. The PC makes you a more efficient worker and produces better reults. It really is a win-win machine.

I tooo waxed for 25 years by hand and last fall got the PC .. Tom_p put it pretty well.

I'll phrase it this way

Dual Action Polisher = having sex

vs. Your Own Hand = having sex .. by yourself ...

after using the PC you will wonder why you bothered by hand.

Jesstzn,

That says it all! :D

Try mimicking the motion of a PC. Can your hand do that in that given amount of time? Back and forth, circulating numerous times / second? Its hard to do so, even if your rubbing the wax/sealant/polish into the finish.

I love the PC. It is easy to use and provides great results on removing swirl marks that can't be achieved by hand.

 Theater of the mind....

You have such a lovely way with words, Dee!

I would have to agree the vast majority of people would be much better off using a PC. I've been doing everything by hand for years, but with newer paints getting so hard now, I really am not going to have much choice other than to get a PC...although the pics I took today of a single stage paint white 1989 Taurus will show that you can still get amazing results by hand. ;)

Yeah that about sums it up lmao !!!!!!! :D

In the long run, over the years, the PC is a good investment (as long as you keep this "detailing" thing up of course ;)). That is what finally swayed me to buy one last year.

Some of the biggest benefits of owning a PC include:

1) It is a huge labour saver.

2) Saves significant time.

3) Makes well-finished prep results more accessable to the average hobbyist because it is easy to use and safe. You don't have to sweat with hours of hand polishing or learn how to use a rotary.

Initial purchase price (with accessories) may seem a tad steep to some, but a PC will live a very long time if cared for.
