Dual Action Pad Care

I searched through prior threads but didn't find the ones talking about how to clean DA pads. I have Meg's pads and I am using 4Star SMR, AIO & 4Star UPP. As always your feedback is appreciated.

I wash mine in hot water and dawn and use a nylon toothbrush to help dislodge any product buildup. I then rinse them with clean water and press them dry, do not wring dry. Let them air dry proped up.

Unfortunately, Meguiar's will tell you never to get your pads wet because they do not use a waterproof adhesive. You can take a damp terry towel and wipe at the residue as well as take a nylon brush to them. Meg's will tell you 1 product for 1 pad as well.

However, I don't want to carry 40 pads around, so I use Murphy's Oil soap (found at the supermarket) because it rinses very clean, and then let air dry overnight before storing again.

Not to hijack but:
Nick, I thought Megs switched adhesives not too long ago to one that is waterproof and holds much better. I wash mine exactly how Travis does (hot water + Dawn Oxy + toothbrush) and have never had any problems with the Megs pads.

Interesting. I called them about 5 weeks ago from a batch that seperated on me and the guy mentioned nothing of it :angry

I have also washed Meguiar's pads in hot water with no problems. With the Velcro any way. My problem is the dust that comes out from the previous product like MPPC after the pad is washed. What a mess!

I think you may need to let you pads soak longer. I always seem to get all the product out of my meg. pads.

I have LC and Wolfgang pads, is it ok to soak them for 3-4 hours? The backing won't come off? I only washed them twice, so not sure yet. How nay times can you use them before you have to throw them away.

I found a good method that works well: Oil Eater (that's the Costco brand name...I think they also sell it under another brand name) and warm water in a plastic bowl. The degreaser in Oil Eater quickly breaks down the old wax.

Method: place pad in bowl, agitate and squeeze for just a minute or so. Rinse with cold water squeezing out frequently. Following rinse and final squeeze, I place the pad in an old terry cloth towel and stand on it (the pad is in the folded towel). Remove and let air dry.

The Oil Eater + water is fast and works well. I've washed pads several times with no ill effects to the pad or velcro.

See Ya

I wash my Lake Country pads in the washing machine with All free and clear and a bit of APC. Never had any problems. Perhaps I'm just lucky but it's so easy, I'll keep tempted fate until I have to buy some new pads.

Just a quick question...

I haven't received my Propel pads yet so I was just wondering...How long does it usually take for pads to dry?

Thanks!
