Drying your Ride

Thanks for all the feedback, and I just found a new use for my new Leaf blower and sounds like i'll be adding the WW to the collection.

I like you never tried using a drying aid but once I did i was hooked. I use GG Spray on wax because it's cheap and got it on BOGO but have also used quick detailers. I like how once the panel is almost dry and your giving it the final wipe you don't get that dragging feeling from your ww. Plus you get a just waxed look after every wash!
 
I've been mainly doing rinseless washes of late and didn't like the bulkiness of the leaf blower. Got myself the metro sidekick and that thing is plenty powerful for it's size.

I use it to blow out crevices, emblems, door handles, side mirrors, and rear lights. All the places where you see trails of dried water the first time you take your car for a drive after washing it.

If I was doing a full wash, then I'd flood, metro, then spraywax and mother's drying towel...

So are you spraying it on before your initial wipe, or while your wiping and the bulk of the water has been knocked off?
 
I spray it on during my initial wipe it seems to help spead it out and use less product. I'm not really looking to wax the car just amp up the gloss lost from a wash. The only draw back is you need to clean your ww afterwards though to get out the wax so you don't end up with a ww don't doesn't aborb anymore. I just give mine a good hand washing and every so often throw it in the machine. So far mine has lasted just fine. I actually have two towels and have never used the second one yet.

are you talking a regular wash or rinseless?

regular wash, flood the car first so most of the water is gone

rinseless wash, I use fluffly mfs and after washing a panel, I rinse the mf in my rinse bucket, then wring it out and go over the panel again, essentially leaving very little water on it (just added this step after reading Todd's write-up) that you can spraywax over then get with a WW. Works great!
 
Yes you could do it either way whether your doing a rinseless or typical car wash. Just use the wax during your drying process.
 
When spring hits i'm going to give it a shot. I'll try it right after the flood rinse. I could imagine that it will make the mf glide across the paint just that much smoother.
 
i tried the gg spray on wax as a drying aud and got a lot of streaking. maybe i used too much. maybe it was too cold (42 degrees). it was real tough to work with. ill have to adjust and give it another shot. ive got two bottles to use up.
 
I use the Absorber to dry all my cars. I've actually used the same one for the past 5 or 6 years and bought the larger size one a month ago. It's the best drying tool that I've found for the money. Just don't let it dry out.
 
I use the flood method, then I use my absorber to get any remaining water droplets. But I always make sure the absorber is clean before using it.
 
I have a Craftsman shop vac that also converts into a blower. I used to use that along with high-quality microfiber towels to dry vehicles. However, I recently purchased the 'Toro 51599 Ultra 12 amp Variable-Speed Electric Blower/Vacuum' from Amazon.com and it really surpassed my expectations. (I somehow managed to resist the temptation to insert an extremly cheesy pun there...) :P

I would definitely recommend it. (It can also be used to vacuum up leaves and debris but I'm betting that it'd quickly become less than ideal for drying vehicles if you didn't keep it extremely clean.)

i had a lot of streaking with gg sprayon wax. not sure if it was the cold weather, too much product, too wet, microfiber incompatibility. any tips?

do you wash it between uses? i thinks its very effective. but people are always commenting that it has a higher risk of scratching the paint. prob not if you wash after each use. i reall like this product, but stopped usig it because of waffle weaves seem to be the preferred choice. maybe ill pull it out again.

I use the Absorber also, and follow it up with a Meguiars WW. I through mine in the wash machine (without any detergant, just a quick wash) after each use.
But, there should really be no need to wash any drying towel after use, THE CAR / PAINT is supposed to be CLEAN after you wash it - and before you dry it!
Just saying.

agree. ideally the car is completely clean, but sometimes there are those nooks and crannies or creases where dirt gets picked up. nothing is ever perfect.

I've never had that problem and my truck is a pretty dark color. I'm using a Cobra Gusler WW and I just spray it on like you would a QD maybe a little less while the truck is still wet before the initial wipe.

That's what I do as well and I've never had streaking unless I miss wiping a spot.
