Driven Auto Detail: 2008 Honda Accord

This car belongs to a guy I went to high school and played football with. It's a 2008 Accord and he wanted to get a complete interior detail. I only waxed the outside because he's currently fighting with Honda about a rust issue on the front of the hood so it would have been pointless to do anything else at this time.

As you can see, the inside definitely needed some attention. I was really surprised at how low quality the carpeted floor mats were. They didn't want to clean-up well at all. After a thorough vacuum, the interior was steam cleaned from top to bottom. Meguiar's APC 10:1 was used on trouble spots. Upholstery, carpets, and mats were treated with Bio-Kleen TLC and agitated with a stiff bristled brush before steam cleaning. Once everything was clean all the hard surfaces were treated to Optimum Protectant Plus.

On the outside, the wheels, tires, and wells were cleaned with Meguiar's APC+ 4:1. Tires were then dressed with Meg's Hyper-Dressing 1:1 and the wells were dressed with Meg's HD 4:1. Wheels were also waxed with OCW. The rest of the car received an ONR wash and a coat of Meguiar's #26. Windows were cleaned with Meguiar's Glass Cleaner Concentrate.

Thanks for looking!

Looks good, especially that interior. :)

What a joke that the hood is rusting like that on a one year old vehicle, I see the drivers side floor mat is worn through too. :down

eeek... interior was....uh... beat to say the least. nice work and g/l with the rust issue: no way that should happen to an 08

Nice work! How do you like the BioKleen? I am about ready to order some.

But I see new cars all the time with floor mats that are worn through, just from someone with a hard pressed foot.

Thanks! Yeah like I said, Honda went cheap on the carpeted mats...and apparently the paint as well.

Thanks! I like Bio-Kleen a lot. After seeing ScottWax rave about it so much, I decided to purchase 4 gallons of it. Not only is does it do a fantastic job at cleaning carpets, it also does a great job at getting rid of odors. I'm into my 3rd gallon of it and will definitely order more when I'm out.

On the carpets & mats, I've come to the conclusion that a lot of manufacturers are switching to cheap low-quality carpeting. Newer Toyota's are even worse than this Honda. Their carpeting is some of the worst out there, IMO. Mazda carpeting tops them all though. Our Mazda3 has by far the worst interior carpets I've ever come across. Anyway, I'll get off my low-quality carpet soap box now...

Thanks again for the compliments everyone! :2thumbs:

Mike...that car wasn't looking too good when you got it, but it sure looked nice when you were finished!

Nice work! how long did it take for the cloth seats to dry after steam cleaning? Did you do anything to help the drying along?

Todd - Thanks bud!

dmw - Thanks! With steam, it doesn't take things long to dry, but I threw a big fan inside for an hour or so after I was done to speed the process up a little. It was completely dry when I took the fan out, but I'm guessing 30 minutes max is all it would have needed.
