dried excess 303 Protectant (just for fun)

I put a few drops of protectants on top of my old refrigerator: white non-clear-coat paint.

I intentionally left them without wiping. After 3 days, I saw what happened.

Meguiars Natural Shine: very thin milky liquid layer.

Lexol Vinylex: thin liquid layer. thin liquid layer. Not uniform in color: it has yellow spots.

303 Protectant: not a thin liquid layer. Bumpy rough solid layer.

I do not know.

After I wipe them with napkin (the bumpy solid layer of 303 could be removed), some visible stain was left. I waxed the top of the refrigerator with TurtleWax Super Hardshell liquid.

I've often wondered about doing a similar test myself to compare the concentration of resins in each product.

It does not surpirse me that 303 appears to have more solids than other products, I read here somehwere that they have one of the highest percentage levels of resins in their products.

Of course, I'm just a layperson.. I'd be very interested to hear from any chemists out there? Would a solids test be valid or meaningful?

I sprayed protectants and some other products on transparent CVS sandwich bag (and on white Glad trash bag for some cases).

Some products swelled thin vinyl bag(s):

Meguiars Natural Shine

Meguiars Gold Class Trim Detailer

Meguiars PlastX

Mercedes-Benz Interior Care

Meguiars Deep Crystal System Paint Cleaner

TurtleWax Super Hard Shell liquid wax

WD-40

Products tested on both sandwich bag and trash bag:

Meguiars Natural Shine

Meguiars Gold Class Trim Detailer

Meguiars NXT Protectant

Mothers Back-to-Black

TurtleWax 2001 Super Protectant

303 Aerospace Protectant

Lexol Vinylex

Mothers Preserves Protectant

Products tested on sandwich bag:

Mercedes-Benz Interior Care

Meguiars Extra

Prestone Interior Cleaner

Meguiars Quick Detailer

EagleOne Wet Wipe & Shine

TurtleWax Platinum Series Ultra Gloss Detailer

Meguiars PlastX

WD-40

Meguiars Bug & Tar Remover

Meguiars Deep Crystal System Paint Cleaner

Mothers Pre-Wax Cleaner

Zymol Cleaner Wax

TurtleWax Super Hard Shell liquid

TurtleWax Platinum Series Ultra Gloss paste

Prestone High Protection Wax

# Being water based or not being water based was not an indicator whether the product swells the sandwich bag. Meguiars Natural Shine is water based and swelled sandwich bag. Mothers Preserves is water based but did not swell the sandwich bag. Meguiars NXT Protectant is not water based but did not swell the sandwich bag.

## Having the phrase [contains petroleum distillate] does not seem to be an indicator whether the product swells the sandwich bag. Meguiars Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner does not have the phrase on the label but it swelled the bag. Mothers Pre-Wax Cleaner has the phrase on the label, but it did not swell the bag. Meguiars Natural Shine, Gold Class Trim Detailer do not have the phrase on the label, but they swelled the sandwich bag.

### I have to say that the comparison between the products was not very fair: the thicknessâ€â„¢ was not uniform in the test. For example, Meguiars Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner beaded on the sandwich bag (like water beading on new car's paint), and formed a thick layer (high bead). Mothers Pre-Wax Cleaner was like cream. So I wiped it a little. After wiping, it happened that the layer of Mothers Pre-Wax Cleaner wax was thinner than the beads of Meguiars Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner.

#### I shook product well before putting it on sandwich bag or trash bag.

##### I do not know any relationship between the swelling of the vinyl sandwich bag and the damage on vinyl, rubber, EPDM, and other surfaces found in automobile and automobile accessories.

*Meguiars Gold Class Trim Detailer is a thick gel. So I wiped it on the vinyl bags. However, I did a special test for this product. I put Meguiars Gold Class Trim Detailer on a thick plastic cap of a rice pudding. Without being wiped, the thick layer of Meguiars Gold Class Trim Detailer gel swelled that thick plastic: the cap warped exactly along the location were the gel was. The cap is about 1 mm thick and the following is written on the cap: Gen Pak, Toronto-Cookshire Canada, 65 98008, 4 LDPE.

** Being water based or not being water based does not seem to be an indicator of oiliness. I tested Meguiars Natural Shine (water based) and Meguiars NXT Protectant (not water based) on thick, hard, very smooth, shiny and reflective black plastic (I can see my self on this plastic. This plastic seems to have a coating that is not for usual vinyl protectant.). Before wiping off well, NXT Protectant felt more oily, but after wiping off very well, there was no difference in oiliness.

I was curious about the unique solid residue of 303 Protectants: bumpy solid layer, and as big as 1 mm diameter particles.

So asked about it to 303. R. K. Dyer at 303 wrote that my 303 Protectant might have been frozen once.

So I tried other 303 Protectant bottle purcheased at a local shop called Wilderness House.

The 303 Protectant's residue from this bottle is thin liquid as the residue of other protectants: no big solid particles.

R. K. Dyer said that un-wiped 303 Protectant would attract dust, and that it would be better to wipe dry to get benefit of 303 Protectant's dust and soil repellency.
