Dri-Ice to Remove Dents?

I read and saw a few videos on this method the other day and figured i would get you guys opinions here.



Has anyone tried to remove dents using the dri ice method? Does it really work and what were your steps? Does this in anyway effect or damage the paint/clearcoat? In the videos on youtube it looks like it works but also have read that once the panel is exposed to the sun again and gets hot the dent might reappear. Just wondering if anyone here has any knowledge or experience in this method and if it works and is worth trying. thanks
 
I used to watch a guy at a bodyshop I hung out at do it all of the time. He'd do it on bare metal though. When you do it on painted cars you run a high risk of burning the paint or cracking it when it pops back. Also, the metal has to be REALLY thin to do it how you see in the videos online where they use a hair dryer. You usually need a torch to heat the metal up.

Yeah, I've heard of that as well but I think the metal needs to be really thin for that to work as well.
 
If you have dents that you think can be repaired using dry ice, just take your vehicle to a PDR tech and get it done right.



The dry ice myth has been around almost as long as I have and I'm "old as dirt".

The trick is heat as well. It has to be HOT. When I watched it done in the body shop they used a torch to heat up the steel.
