Dr. Color Chip Results - (lots of pics)

Very interested in adding this to my arsenal.

I would like to hear about it's durability.

Thanks for posting this up.

Well if the car is driven in an area that gets snow and they use sand on the roads, you will get rock chips. Basically two options in these places 1) rock chips 2) 3M clear bra.

In Alberta we use sand, not pretty!

Third option... buy a winter beater! :werd:

Well today I finally had a chance to clean my car and polish it and everything. The dr. colorchip repairs held up great. The durability of this stuff is great.

Keep in mind that the day I put it on, it ended up raining about 6 hours after I removed the repaired paint. I drove about 100 miles in the rain and my car sat out all weekend in the rain and has now sat out in all different kinds of weather for about 2 weeks and it's still in great shape.

I used dawn to wash my car and it didn't do anything to the repaired chips either. And the polishing and waxing just made it all look even better :D.

I'll try to get some more pics tomorrow if I have a chance.

Might be selfish of me to ask, but I'd like to see you try to "build up the paint" in some of the larger chip areas and see how that turns out.

Did you get a chance to do the updated pictures yet...I'm kind of anxious to see too :).

I just had a lady who i did a job for ask if i knew how to repair some scratches she had on the back of her SUV where she didnt pull it in far enough and hit the garage door button (im sure you can guess what happened lol)

I told her i couldnt buff it out and that it would take paint, but i've never really done any type of touch up like that before and was a little held back because I wasnt sure what type of touch up to use...but this looks like good stuff. I might give her a call back and have her order some...or get the info so i could order it and do the touch up for her.

Any ideas on what the price should be to do a touch up like this. Its not a lot of rock chips like you had...but they are some pretty deep scratches...and if she were to want me to 'fill them' with the paint, about how long should i wait before applying a second coat to further fill in the scratch?

Dr. Color Chip works fantastic for road rash. I use it all the time for that. For other kinds of chips, not so much.

Ok, sorry it's taken so long for me to get back on this topic. I've been in New York over Memorial Day weekend.

Anyway, the couple days before I left I had been messing around detailing my car. I made a bad decision and decided to polish my entire car by hand... All I have to say is never again will that be happening. I'm going to be buying a DA polisher soon. Griots probably. Chime in with any advice.

Back on topic though. After getting done finally with the entire hand polishing job, the chips had held up great. They actually looked better after I got done polishing them imo. I used the megs 105/205 combo.

The only problem I ran into was when I was using the 105, it would sometimes dry in the chips and would be hard to get out. Once I went over it with a finishing polish though, in this case 205, it got the dried 105 out and it looked fine again. I don't think this problem would occur if you are using a machine. The machine will work the product in much much better than me doing it by hand.

I have some pictures that I took, but it's kinda late right now and idk where my camera is. I'll find it tomorrow and post them up. And as someone else asked about layering the product and seeing how it works. Well I tried it on the one big chip that is by the license plate and it didn't really do much. Granted I only let it dry for like 2 minutes so that probably has some part to do with the results not being very good. I would think that if you were to let it sit for another couple hours it would do great. I just didn't have that much time to do the whole process again.

Sounds good cant wait to see the pics :)

You know Ive had 105 be a little rough to get off but I find if you just do 1 quick mist of detail spray on your MF it really helps it come off a lot easier...and i dont think it really hurts anything...just an idea..

Yeah I found that too. I was having a hell of a time getting that crap off. I tried getting some moisture to help with the removal so I just used some quick detailer. It definitely helped out alot. Idk why it can be so hard to get off. It seems like it dries really fast or somethin. Whatever.

Well here are the pics of some of the chips I had repaired with the Dr. Colorchip. This is all after a polish with 105/205, by hand....

105 dried in the chips and left a white residue in the chips, made it look horrible, great...

After some worrying of the results with 105, I finished it up with the 205. All good again :) Actually, better than before :). This is all before I applied wax.

Damn, sucks about the 105. It can be a little rough to get off...use the quick detailer on your MF or directly on the paint next time, works like a charm for me.

The 205 did seem to smooth out the edges a lot...that goodness for that :)
