Door handle protector

Not sure if this has been discussed be4, if it has, please steer me in the right direction. Anyways, every single car i see, has those scratch marks right under the door handle for years of opening them with those damn fingernail. My question is this: Is it possible to put a clear plastic protector on there like what people do to the front end to prevent this from happening? Thanks a lot guys

Sure, you could look up a clear bra protection manufacturer like Stongard and see if they make that part for your truck.( Some manufactuers make these parts and other don't)

What I did for my Audi is purchase four clear door handle guards intended for C4 Corvettes, trim them slightly to fit under my door handles and for $13 or so, I have peace of mind not having to worry about those scratches. No one would ever know the clear protectors are there unless they stuck their nose right up to them :) :up

Only problem Jet, doesn't your passat have grab handles like my car? If so the C4 vette guards will be way too small...

Huh?? I was directing the Q at Bill D ... you one in the same? I thought the newer VW/Audi shared the same handles.

Sorry, just trying to help keep you from wasting your money since I've been trying to find a solution to the same problem. No need to be nasty.

And no, Audis have pull up style handles, not grab handles like VW.

I don't know a part number specifically for an Audi/VW, I kind of home made mine from the c4 corvette ones. I got them from Mid America : http://www.madirect.com

Hope this helps

ARG!!!

I lost one of my door handle cup guards today  I had them over a year and you would think the one on the drivers door would've blown away. I ordered another pair but madirect's shipping $ really sucks :down

Stonguard refers to the application fluid or something like that. What did you use when you applied the door cups?

Thanks,

This is just static cling type material, held up very well and the rest are on just fine. If they fail as well, Ill get Stongard ,just had lots of poor luck installing that material on my headlights, the door handle area is a lot smaller so will probably be more of a hassle for me ( little room to manuever the squeege in that space)but I'll try them if what I have doesn't work.

Without hunting for it myself, the stuff you are looking for is common in the offroad crowd, and the circle track racing crowd. Comes it two types. one is a clear spray on type, the other is a clear plastic stick on type. For the compound bends common under door handles, the spray on type would be best suited. It peels off.

Hmm..could you provide a link to this material for my future reference? I already ordered a replacement

I bought a roll of the 3M paint protection film, it might be called Scotchcal..but I don;t quite remember. Any auto body supply shop should have these rolls in different widths. One roll will last you a loooong time.

I'll make up a paper template, cut out a piece of the film, then apply. If it gets beat-up...make a new one.

I made "spats" for behind the front wheels (on the front of the rockers) for the Cobra, and even made a piece to go under the hood of the Plymouth so that the hood safety catch doesn't mar the paint.

yeah, the Scotchcal is the clear bra material, you use alcohol mix and squegee to apply right?

Bill...yes, same stuff. It comes in various widths and thicknesses.

It seems to hold very well...but can be removed without damage as well.

As far as application...I have been using smaller pieces, so I just clean the area and apply. For a bigger piece you may need or want to use a wtteing agent.

Hmmm..you can apply dry in small areas? Wow, didn't know that, seemed like trying to apply it wet under door handles could be a bear
