Don't We Need a Home Theater Thread?!

Hey Mike... Our Mits 65" DLP is super bright. No room darkening necessary. What model is your Mits? (BTW, I love the DLP technology also!)

Bill,

My Mits is an old 2001 WS-65907 Diamond Rear Projection CRT TV. When it finally dies I will have to replace it with another 65" TV. Right now Mitsubishi is the only one that sells a 65" DLP. So that just may be the route I go.

The DLP that we have in the bedroom is a 50" Samsung and it produces a beautiful picture.

Here is a picture of my Mits before I hid it behind the custom cabinet.

Mike, Great built-in cabinet you have there. Plus some very nice components.

Our HL67a750 is a LCD based DLP, so no bulb. I love this TV, unfortunately samsung has stopped production of these due to lower margins then the flatscreens.

We have a LN46a650 LCD on the wall in the bedroom and I'd say this DLP is 85% of the picture quality of the LCD.

Never what I would consider a dim picture.
Bryan,

It's a bummer they stopped making them. Your DLP came out a year after I bought mine. I have had any problems with mine, but there have been many that had to have the light engines replaced.

If they ever come out with a 65" LCD I would seriously look into buying one.

I absolutely love the picture on the Mits 65. If you want a REALLY big DLP, Mits has a twin to that model in a 73" that is magnificent!!! I saw it at COSTCO for $1799 last week and that included a free stand for the TV...

Believe me, I was tempted!:drool5: (My wife collared me just at the moment of greatest temptation... I looked at her and said: "What?" .....I was dead meat.)

Okay Bill, now we are talking. This is what I do for a living. I used to work as a Sales manager for a AV Custom Installer, and now work for a Manufacturers Rep firm for High End AV gear.

Here is what I have:
50" Pioneer Elite TV
Integra Research Pre-Amp/Processor
Integra Research 7 Channel Amp.
Pioneer Elite DV47-AI Universal DVD Player
Pioneer Elite PDF-27 300 Disk CD Changer
Monster Cable Power Conditioner
Martin Logan Ascent I front speakers
Martin Logan Stage I Center Channel Speaker
Martin Logan Decent I Subwoffer
Velodyne Subwoffer
Krix Side Surround spkrs and rear surround spkrs.

All my speaker cables, power cords and interconnects are of the rediculously expensive nature as well.

This was my vice until I found the wonderful world of detailing;)

Sorry no pics, but the wife has the camera with her.

BMW5541,

Your setup looks to be a very sweet 7.1 sound system. You either have a large HT room or are a bottom dweller with those 2 subwoofers

Since you are a Profession Installer, I am curious which remote you chose to control all that equipment. For my modest setup, I went with the Home Theater Master (now Universal Remote Control) MX-850. I love that remote.

Mike,

I use a Marantz RC9001, which is a pronto based touch screen remote. One button turns everything on and off. It also controlls everything in the system. It is not something that a novice can program, but if anyone is interested, PM me, and I can show you a shortcut to program any remote.

I just moved into a new home, so I am still in the setup process. But here goes anyways! ;)

Before I moved in.

I'll try to get a picture of mine, it's nothing special.

52" MITS DLP (on my 3rd lamp already )
Denon Amp w/iPod Dock
Bose Center Channel
Polk Satellites
Polk Sub
Cheap JBL Surrounds that are next on the list to be replaced
PS3

I love the DLP, but those new LED's look very tempting. Maybe at the next house.

Have you done the "Heat sensor mod"?

There is a defective heat sensor in the 52"-73" models built in certain years. Mitsubishi will send a tech out to your house and replace it for free.

I did this 2 months after I bought the 65 because I kept getting an "over heat" warning.

My tv is over 3 years old and I'm still on the original bulb... bright as ever.

Here's the link to MDEA 800 numbers. I think I called the warranty department.

BW's for the rear, Sonance in ceilings for the middle, old school Yamaha towers, Velodyne Sub and a Definitive center channel. I know its all different but when its playing together, omg! its truly amazing and gets LOUD. I love heavy metal music especially with female front vocals, so needless to say it gets a bit crazy loud!!

The TV is a Samsung 720p 50 inch. Since my viewing distance is less than 15 feet I couldnt at the time justify a 1080i. But here in a couple months when I sell a few more cars. I will be upgrading to either a 55 or 60inch Runco Plasma :Dancing Dot: Then this one will be moved up stairs. I am putting a 42 inch plasma in my bedroom. Also when i upgrade in the basement I will be flush mounting it into the wall. Same with the storage cabinet and the subwoofer below the tv, just to open the space up more.

The Sonance in-ceiling speakers are $250+ EACH at Best buy, I got mine on ebay for $61 shipped for BOTH :woot:

When it comes to home theater, LOUD is OK!:cornut:

I always wanted ceiling speakers, but I was never willing to pay those prices!:banghead: You got a great deal!:cornut:

6 year old 32 inch analog with an antenna in my attic. I am too cheap to pay for cable, dish or a nice entertainment system. Even when I worked for Insight Cable and got everything for free, other than ESPN I generally watched the free channels (NBC, ABC, CBS and FOX) more than anything else.

I was like that until my neighbor got me hooked on his system and started getting me good deals on the equipment via internet. He really changed the way I thought about Home Theater... (and my checkbook!)

Any way you could post up a direct link? I looked around nd can't find it.
If ya could dig it up, Bill, you'd be my hero. I'm on my 3rd lamp as well, and my 52 DLP is still dark.

Check out this link. It's a discussion of Mits air flow problems. If you go to Post #353, it should lead you to the right person and get your problem solved. I had mine done almost 3 years ago and still going strong on the original bulb.

THIS SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER FACTORY WARRANTY, REGARDLESS OF THE AGE OF THE TV!
