Don't Speed in Lubbock

That's still the rule, but the rest has relaxed a bit.

I guess some things don't change. I too used to make that trip about every two weeks or so. When I was at school in Lubbock, my now wife was going to school in Amarillo, so I became awfully familiar with the drive.

It can't be more embarrassing than being pulled over on a motorcycle, by a motorcycle cop.

Oh there are worse things :)

They are doing that on the frontage road off 360 between Green Oaks and Post & Paddock in Grand Prarie. 6 cops too. At that point, you know it is all about generating revenue and not safety. Amazing that people can run red lights with impunity or drive 20 below the limit and reply to text messages but you go 10 over you have to pay.

 Much applause for this post. Speed traps are ridiculous and really do nothing to foster safety or better driving. I think that's proven. I see cars smoking to high heaven driving right past cops not getting pulled over. I see cars that are barely roadworthy on a daily basis. Let's not even get into all the uninsured drivers in this state (Texas) that cost those of us that pay our premiums $1 BILLION dollars a year.

Speed traps are for police officers who need to get their minimum number of tickets out before the end of the month, which is why I always see more cops on the road the last week of each month.

I second the uninsured drivers. I was fine driving in Austin, but after I came back to Houston, driving became hell. I feel that I have to drive aggressively on the freeway in order to get anywhere.

Look on the bright side. At least Texans get to enjoy a 70 mph speed limit and a 65 in urban areas. In IL, we are stuck with 65 mph in rural areas and 55 in urban areas.

Do they follow it?

In Chicago, the average speed on the expressways is between 75 - 80 despite the posted 55 mph limit.

You can beat any ticket by a radar or laser by asking for the source code from the radar or laser gun. Police Radar guns uses a computer source code and the Co.’s that makes the radar guns will not give out the source code!

uninsured drivers suck, they should make it maditory in all states to have purchase insurance yearly, not monthly

I've heard about a million tactics similar to this one, and what it all boils down to is most judges don't have the patience for that stuff. They will scoff at you and you will end up paying. This is just like the "ask for the calibration certificate" solution to all speeding tickets.

I’m not into legal matters but you can’t just walk in and say drop the case because of I want the source code. There is ways to handle your case right and there is ways to act like you are just wasting the courts time.

That's what I'm getting at. Even if you did it the right way the judge is going to tell you don't waste my time with lame tactics like that. The bottom line is they gun you, it's gonna stick unless something went blatantly wrong during the stop.

Yeah technically you should get off on the source code violation - but most judges are willing to ignore the law so that citizens can't get acquitted left and right. Same goes for DUI's and breathalyzer source code, due process has really taken a backseat to revenue enforcement.

No they dont what? I had to pay $300 for the past two years for having too many points...but ok "No they dont" :bow whatever what do I know

I really wanna know where your getting this from. Ive been living in this state for 25 years. I have a total of 12 tickets, there are no yearly fines. You might have to pay $300 extra in insurance but thats not the same thing as a fine.

Well that would explain it, its a NEW law. Started on oct.1 2003. I havent had a ticket since 02. Also you need either 7 or more points or a *qualitfying* offense like DUI or reckless driveing. So if you get a ticket here in michigan you will not be charged yearly for it unless your over 7 points already or have a DUI that is still standing. Even if you do they only charge you for it for 2 years if i read that right.

I started driving in..May of 2003 - I had 13 points total I think? So I had to go for re-examination and I got my license taken away for 8 months (rightfully so) and I had to pay the $300 for two years, and when it came time to get my license back it was as easy as going to the Secretary of State office, getting my picture re-taken and thats that..I didnt have to pay any re-instatement fee or anything. I'll never speed again... lol
