Don't scratch a detailer's personal vehicle

i absolutely hate when people touch and lean on my car, my friends will go to lean on it when we are like all meeting up in our cars and i politely tell them to please not lean on the car and theyre like "oh its just my shorts with no buttons" so i just lightly push em off but they still try and resist.

number one rule of all cars. respect the man's car and the man will respect you.

i wish i could have that in a hologram in my car or somethin.

I understand your pain, but I wouldn't expect anything better from a place like Jiffy Lube. It seems the easier the task, the easier it is for people that don't care to f it up.

I own a Subaru, and the worse for me is when people close my doors with the windows... (they're frameless). Oily fingerprints FTL. Or even better.. when someone sets a cup on your roof before they get in. Seriously?

I can't stand "the leaners" -people who come up to my car and lean on it like it's a La-Z Boy...

Grrrr....

By contrast, my truck looks rough, scratched and well used. -and I like it !

I had the exact same issue at a local Jiffy Lube. I had just detailed my wifes black Honda Accord the day before. Sure enough they laid those mats on the fenders and scratched them up lightly as if they dragged the mats across the paint. From my experience with different Jiffy Lubes they do lazy work. I had a friend who went to Jiffy Lube and the drain plug wasn't even put back which means that he didn't even have oil. Luckily he only drove for 10 minutes before realizing what was wrong.

I'm not liking what I've seen the last 2 times I've ran it through the touchless but I haven't had the time to correct mine. Hate when people can't see the problems with the paint, our we the only "sick" ones who are this OCD about our cars? I don't get it myself. Way to make them foot the correction bill!

Well, speaking of "touchless"....

We have a waterjet wash, drive through with a underbody that does a decent job for a wintertime option. Usually I have a good experience, but last time I went in there, I had snow boogers on my mudflaps and side skirts. The "southern" immigrant help decided it was a good idea to start kicking the snow off. I got right out of the car IN the was in my suit and yelled at them to stop. I about blew a gasket. They looked at me and humbly picked up thier prewash wands and went about their way.

Sure we are OCD, but I think it's a matter of respect. Respect that people care about thier cars, and you won't have a problem. Regardless of what condition you think the car is in.

wow.... I was going to respond to the OP's post as I fee for him and i'm glad he was able to get them to pay up, but after reading all these responses....

honestly i feel good. like another poster said - at least i know i'm not the only one! luckily for me I own a two seater, and folks other than my g/f and closest friends don't get to sit in it. Additionally, people know how retarded anal I am about my car (aka i treat it the way i think she's SUPPOSED to be treated - odd right?) so folks don't like to come near it. Thats fine with me! :D

Sorry to hear about what happened but yeah, Jiffy Lube is crap. My dad's friend went to Jiffy Lube and as he was driving away, his add oil light came on. He thought to himself 'I just changed the oil so the light must be broken.' Couple miles down the road the engine seizes because Jiffy Lube drained the oil and didn't add any...

BTW, any chance you could tell us what you did to get your hood to look so great?

Todd, that really sucks that had happend to ur acura. i would never trust any oil change places around Columbus to touch a luxury car or any of my except the dealership. always go back to the dealership, drop it off and ask them for a loaner car and you be on ur way.

Did they end up paying for the damages on ur car?

Heh, I'm just outside of NA (the neighborhood at Harlem & Central College).

Small world :xyxthumbs

OMG...this just happened to *me* as well :o

Same story...my local Chevy dealer has been well-trained and knows how to treat my vehicles. BUT...the Yukon needed an oil change, and my guy at the Chevy dealer went to voicemail, and I was right there stuck in traffic next to the local Valvoline....so, well you can guess the rest :wall

Faster than I could say "No, don't do that!" the guy whips out a cloth and wipes something off the leading edge of the hood. The marring was only visible in certain lighting, but you can guess what I did the second I got home. Oh well, I did find three tiny RISS (Random Isolated Shallow Scratches) in addition to the new damage so I guess all's well that ends well.

M105/Flex/7006, 1Z HG/Cyclo/green, 1Z WPS/Cyclo/white, 476S. Same ol' same ol' with metallic paint- I spent more time inspecting than I did correcting.

Next time I'll still consider the Valvoline place, but I'm gonna be the guy opening/closing the hood. No fender covers used there, so I don't have to worry about that.

I'm laughing WITH you Accumulator!

I brought a bill into Jiffy lube today along with a CD that had all of the photographic evidence, and they handed me cash and I was on my way...

That sucks that it happened, but I'm glad to see you got reimbursed. I've seen similar Autopian crimes committed at dealerships, too. :angry

BTW, nice job on that Benz in the other thread.

Yeah, that's the way I ended up looking at it too, but then my damage wasn't nearly as bad as yours so it was easy to laugh off as motivation to do a post-winter polish. I probably ended up more ticked off about having to do the full wash that preceded the polishing, my "quick lube" took up a whole lotta time.

Glad you got compensated, you must've handled the whole thing just right :xyxthumbs
