I guess I learned the hard way. My arm almost fell off my body after applying ScratchX to my entire car! I thought I could use it as a substitute polish. Boy was I a fool!
Notwithstanding the pain, ScratchX did a decent job, but I still couldn't tackle some of the major scratches/swirling. I was using the Lake Country Pad and Handle kit, by the way, and applied ScratchX with a yellow pad and #7 with a white pad. (If you're detailing by hand, you don't what you're missing with this pad and handle kit. It's like a PC in the palm of your hand.)
Like many others have stated on this forum, the product is only meant for spot treatment, at best. I'm sure there's better stuff out there. What more can you expect from something that's over the counter?
So my next experiment will be with Poorboy's SSRs, namely 1 and 2.5. With reference to 2.5, if I were to use it by hand, would SSR 2.5 apply and remove easier than a ScratchX?
