Dollar Store Detailing

So, i was bored the other day, and decided to wander down to the dollar store that is like 2 blocks from my house. Its a chain i guess (dollar tree) though i've never seen them anywhere else. I was just wandering through, and what did i find? Detailing supplies!! Of course, i wouldn't touch their "wax" or "washing wipes" (cringes at thought of it), but i did end up getting some wheel cleaner (just some mild acid) and some other stuff. They had a 6 pack of the curved foam applicators for tires for like a $1! Its like $2 for 3 applicators at wally world. Blew my mind. They even had "car wash." Still dont know if i would buy it, but for a buck, i might try it on my wheels or something. It blew my mind. They even had terry towels, but i was really scared of those. ALso, had tons of big spray bottles, got a couple of em and used them for the interior (put woolite mix in em).

So, the lesson is, if you're bored and want to go shopping for really cheap detailing supplies, go to your local (half way decent mind you) dollar store, they might just have something!

$1.29 got me Black Magic brand car wash soap at Big Lots. But I'll have to check the dollar store for the tire swipes, that is a pretty good deal. I occassionally like to wander through some of the bargain stores like that -- it's like a treasure hunt :)

Eagle 1 tire swipes are 4 bucks for 2 at the local auto store. Sounds like you made out well : )

I have been using the 6 for a buck sponges at the dollar store to clean my wheels. I would say I use 1/3 the AZ when I use a sponge instead of just spraying it on and hosing it off. I should give them a try at dressing next.

The spray bottles I have got at the dollar store are really bad but hey they are a buck......

Autozone here in UT has them for $1.99.

Also check out their "tool section" - I picked up a set of cheap open-end wrenches (thin, stamped), one of which fits the PC.

I just picked up a few tire swipes for a dollar, and found a nifty wheel brush for a buck. And no, i wouldn't trust any chemical or wax there ... but a plastic bucket is a plastic bucket ... i always check discount stores (Ollies) and Dollar Tree for car stuff ...

I get a lot of miscellaneous stuff from dollar stores, like a lot of my brushes and cheap sponges for interior work. Sometimes I'll get containers and spray/squeeze bottles too.

Once in a while you find something brand name and "nice" there because it was dumped by some other store.... It depends if you mean "dollar store" or "liquidation store" sometimes though.

Well I going to have to change my attitude. Sounds like some usefull stuff in those stores.

In the past I didnt want to go in the dollar stores because I might find something I really liked. "What would that say about me?" I was affraid of the answer.

I found a nice set of cheap bungie cords there too, not bad all told. Even had little buckets with screws and stuff for minor repairs on the road. Ill have to check my local Big Lots on that Black Magic car wash... didn't see it last time i was there.

I was in Big Lots on Tuesday and found a real nice sheepskin wash mitt for $3.99. It is Patagonian sheepskin and made in Argentina.... feels really nice and plush. FYI, supposedly the Patagonian region of Argentina in South America is famous for quality sheepskins (according to the mfg's hype on the package).

Great post Prometheus

I use stuff from the Dollar Store too.

I buy the 3/$1 MF towels for engine bay and wheel work.

I also use the 12/$3 terry towels for the same.

I've seen the tire dressing applicators too. Haven't tried them yet though.

I got a jumbo sized woolite from BJ's for 9 bucks (100 oz bottle!!) and some really good spray bottles with the concentrations marked on the sides (5/1 4/1 etc...)... it was brainless to make the woolite mix with these fill to line add water :)

Heh, I posted a similar thread awhile back at another site, except people there were less than enthuasiastic then me and since all my stuff is $1.00cdn I'am more thrifty than you ! :P
