Doh! Meguiars #1,2 and 3

Long story short I was at O'reilleys and picked up Meguiars #1 medium cut, #2 fine cut, and #3 machine glaze. I thought this was sort of a "complete system" but looking at the back of the bottles it says to follow # 2 with #9 to remove swirls. It also says that #2 is for removing swirls! I really only got the medium cut for just in case. To a newb like myself, I thought it made sense to get #1,2, then 3. :grrr

Can someone tell me if it's okay to follow up the fine cut with the machine glaze or if I wasted money.

Thanks!

Are you doing this work by hand or machine?? And, what type of car and condition of the paint will also get you better answers.

The "system" was Meg's consumer line products: Deep Crystal Cleaner "step 1," Deep Crystal Polish "step 2" and Deep Crystal Wax "step 3," although they've dropped the cleaner and polish (glaze) in favor of newer consumer line products.

The professional line products aren't a "numbered system." So you've basically bought three random products out of dozens.

It's like buying a 1/4" combination wrench, a 1/2" combination wrench and a #2 Phillips screwdriver.

Did you waste your money? That all depends on how/if/when/why you use various products. They're still functional products and quite usable, but older technology, developed some time back. Most people around here would lean toward newer products.

Yes, you can glaze with M03 Machine Glaze after polishing with M02 Fine Cut Cleaner. They play very well together.

M01 Medium Cut Cleaner is intended for rotary use only. If you apply it any other way, especially on a clear coat finish, you might get hazing that would need to be removed with another product (like Fine Cut Cleaner, ScratchX 2.0, M205, SwirlX...).

I'm using a rotary on a year old car. It has minor surface scratches and is slightly rough on the surface from me neglecting it for a couple months. Thanks for the replies! I was hoping I wouldn't have to order my products online!

More courage than me--wouldn't touch my car with a rotary. (Ofcourse you may know how to use it correctly)

Many, but not all, Walmarts now carry quite a few Megs pro products--check around. Also, I beleive, many AutoZones now carry some Megs pro products.

Haha, I know how to use one, have been attempting to figure out how to get a swirl free finish with one for a few years now. Which is why I don't blame you for not wanting to try. In fact I started "detailing" for a carwash chain that decided to open up a detail shop. I used their sm arnold pads and auto magic compound, polish, and wax. A lot of the cars we got were horribly neglected by the owner and we were expected to do a full detail on them in 4-6 hours. That includes a 3 step polish(synthetic wool), same polish(yellow foam), then wax(black foam).:ohwell:

Something I never seemed to learn when I WAS using a rotary was exactly how much polish to use. I'm using the the "fine cut cleaner" on a 7" pad and the product tends to cake up on the panel in some spots, almost as if I'm using too much. Even if I use just a few drops it seems like it will build up in one spot then it gets hard to wipe off. If I use less product I'll work it in until there's a very fine clear layer left but when I feel the pad it feels dry. I don't want to be dry buffin now! Any advice? I have my buffer set just over the #1 setting on the dial.
