Dog Hair Removal Help

We have a white American Bulldog that we take for rides in the back of my girlfriend's 2010 A4 Avant. Needless to say, short white dog hair + black interior = unsightly.

It's everywhere in the back. Since the hairs are short, they work they're way into the carpet fibers and make it rather difficult to remove.

Last summer I used a pumice stone and my shop-vac....it worked, but the pumice stone seemed a little too aggressive on the carpet.

What do the pros recommend? Like I said, it's everywhere, and in abundance.

Pumice stone is my go-to for imbedded hair. I have also used a "pet hair" comb from a local detailing supplier here but the pumice stone seems to be the only thing that gets the hair curled into the carpet

A combination of the above plus rolling some good ol' fashion duct tape back and forth ought to finish it off.

I've always had great luck with the latex glove trick; just put a glove on your hand and sweep the side of it across the carpet to collect hairs into a pile, then pick the pile up or vacuum it up.

Let me ask this...what type of pumice stone do you recommend? I must admit, the pumice stone I used worked well...but it was one of those stones you use for cleaning grates on a bbq.

Another tip I learned was a mixture of fabric softner and water in a spray bottle. I haven't tried it yet but it is supposed to work with a latex glove.

I got my pumice stones from a detail supplier here in Illinois. Its 5" long by 2" wide and is flat on one side and rounded on the other. The pours and holes are larger than the average pumice stone. But hair is hair. Just gotta keep on pulling every last one out till you are done.

I am with most in that the pumice stone works great. However, as stated above, I have also had great success with the latex glove, especially when it gets embedded in the headliner, which is very fragile fabric...too fragile for a pumice stone IMO.

I keep a small peel-off adhesive lint roller in the door pocket. Works great. You can get hair before it embeds too deeply.

Tusin- Once you do get it cleaned up, maybe consider investing in a HatchBag (link: SUV Cargo Liner | Car Roof Top Carrier | Pet Barrier | Hatchbag Inc. ). I have sorta the mirror-image version of your situation (black dog hair in light gray interiors) and I've been able to basically make the whole thing a non-issue.

Besides their made-to-measure stuff (which do fit well IME), they sell the material in bulk and can do speical requests (within reason). For specialty work, ask for Vickie.

There is a pumice stone called Furzoff that is marketed for this purpose. It seems to be not quite as aggressive as others, but it still comes with warnings to keep it away from plastic trim and whatnot. Go to a drug store and find the smoothest one you can.
