Does your back hurt when you work on the bumpers, rocker panels, wheels?

I got one when it was $30 and I love it. It doesn't go as low as I'd like (16" lowest), but it instantly made all lower panel detailing, especially claying, much easier to live with. :xyxthumbs

That is the one I got! For $30 you can not go wrong.

:lol Thanks people. :D

This has come up before, but it seems to be something peculiar with Autopian demographics. I've been surprised quite often too, when I've spoken to people and always assumed they were middle-aged or older, only to find out otherwise later. thevolvoguy is celebrating his 17th birthday today!

Creeps and mechanics seats are great, if the sides of your drive way are not grass. Mine are, so I bought a "lawn buddy" because it has large, wide wheels.

I don't know....it seems to me that sitting on a chair while detailing the lower areas would cause more back strain b/c you're bending your back more... Guess I need to try it first.

I use knee pads b/c it allows me to keep my back relatively straight.

Haha, the first time my wife saw me using them, she blurted out a real good joke about how they might be good for one other thing too... LOL

I often wear my weight belt from the gym with a sweatshirt tucked over it so as not to mar my finish. Sheik makes a good one made out of velcro, it has excellent support both anterior and posterior.

That "Snap-on Creeper" link doesn't work for me.

Sorry about that, their on line catalog is kinda funky. I updated the link but, if that doesn't work just go to www.snapon.com and do a search for part number jch29 and that should do it for you. Make sure you select part number in the drop down list next to the search box.

Doesn't anyone goes on his knees? I can't do it any other way. Much more comfortable than sitting on a low seat.

My back hurts, far more, when I do interiors, not low exterior parts.

Yeah, I do wind up on my knees much of the time (using the kneepads that Intermezzo mentioned). Which is why my thighs, hams, and back hurt so bad the next day.

Not all of us are blessed with good knees. I for one would be writhing on the floor with leg cramps after probably about 5 minutes of trying to work while kneeling :)

Thanks rjstaaf. I found it. I even found it at their Canadian online store. CDN$137  It's probably worth it for the extra comfort, but at the moment I have to think twice about the $30 one ;)

My antique knees won’t allow much kneeling, even with the best of cushioning. Even if I could, I still wouldn’t. What if somebody saw me? They’d most surely say, “I know that you spend a lot of time with that stupid roadster, but I didn’t realize that you prayed to it too! :D

I can sit cross-legged quite comfortably, so sitting on my 1/2 foam matte works well from the rocker panels and bumpers up to the belt line. For the lower edges of the rocker panels and bumpers I hook three of the interlocking mats together and lie on my side. :up

I like to be able to move to the next section without getting all the way up from a sitting or kneeling postion on the floor. I use my stool when washing rocker panels, lower bumpers, and wheels.

Now that I'm not so young anymore, I find that I sorta "seize up" if I stay bent over for too long at a go. I'm still limber enough to put my palms on the ground without bending my knees, but I can't stay in that kind of position for very long.

I have a red and black rolling seat that I got from Auto Zone for about $30. it has a large tray under the seat for supplies, and it sits about 13" off the ground, give or take the 2" of foam that my 275 lbs compresses (in other words, it's also very sturdy). That's good for almost anything.

Pxisses you off don;t it? Now that we are old enough to buy the cars we want we are to old to wash and wax them. hehehehehe

30 years of bending over has taken a toll on my back. I wear four different back braces everyday. When I come home from work I lay on a bed of ice. Later in the evening I go in the jacuzzi. Get up at 4:30 the next morning and do it all over again. I still look forward to going into work everyday.
