Does this sound like a right process?

Jliao: Don't forget another wash after claying.

I have basically the same question, so I'll piggyback this thead. (hope no one minds, if so I can delete this) Be sure to say who you are talking to though!

My process is for a fairly swirled+a few scraches Milano red paint. I will be posting pictures very soon. Everything is by hand, No PC yet.

Wash, Clay, Wash, DACP, SFP, S100 SECP, EX-P (possibly 2x), S100 wax (possibly 2x). How long should I wait in between layers? Any tips on applying by hand?

Your sealant layers can go on right after your initial prep.

After that, you want 24 hours between any layers from the sealant through the wax topper.

IMHO, for claying, just use Meguires QD spray as a lubricant and dispense with the post-clay wash.

Likewise, for my 24-hour later layers, since my cars live outside, I'll simply QD after a run with the CCD rather than wash the thing every day for a week.

I have the Clay Magic kit(contains lube), I still need a good QD. I could get it locally, so I guess it was kind of an impulse buy. :) I'll wash between each untill I get a QD. I don't mind washing every day for a week anyway. :)

So is this a good process and products? It seems like everyone uses VM over S100 SECP.

I can't comment on those particular products, as I've only worked with the Blackfire system (twice) and AIO + SG + P21s.

Between the two, I prefer the Klasse twins over Blackfire... much easier to work with.

If my memory serves me correctly the 3m SMR products fill in more swirls than remove them. If this is the case the AIO is going to remove the oils from your paint and basically you will be left with wasted time of applying two coats of the SMR. *I* would use a polish that removes more of the marring rather than fill it if I wam going to go the Klasse route.

This is just my $.02

I clay as I wash the car, then wash the car all over again afterwards to remove any dried water spots.

scottabir, what polish would you recommend? Meguiar #80? or DACP?

If you are not sure how strong a product you need, you can always try the SMR. I disagree that it fills more than anything else, but it IS very mild. Try that first and then step up to something stronger (like DACP) if needed. You might still need the SMR to clean up any hazing caused by the stronger product, so I would have it on hand regardless.

Try things on small sections first, and check your work as you go and after each step. You don't want to do a whole car and then find out that maybe you should have done things differently. I'm assuming you have swirls or some other problem you have to remove, but you haven't said, and in any case, it is always an in-person judgement call.

*I* personally have not had much luck with the 3M SMR (for dark cars bottle). Why not try to use the SMR on half the hood and then add your AIO and see the results, maybe it does remove more than it fills.

I agree with 4DSC in regards to having to see the problem before telling you to get XYZ brand polish. If you can snap a pic it would help out a lot.

This is the pic of my car..

As you can see, I don't have alot of swirls, so I was hoping SMR would do the trick. But if AIO and SMR steps are wrong, please correct me with the correct process~

Or my alternative is replacing SMR with #9 or DACP, but I never used SMR and hoping to give it a try to see the result.

Thanks

When it stops raining, should I mostly take pictures of the paint with close-ups? That is my only question now. once I get pictures I'll make my own thread. :up

So, what should I use instead? SMR looks like will do the trick for my minor swirls. However, if AIO after SMR will really remove the filler, then I would wanna try something else; hence I really wanna go with Klasse twin. In this case, what should I use? or the proper step? My options are DACP and #9

Thanks

I would use only #9 for your paint. it doesnt look like there is much marring at all. Something mild like #9 should do the trick just fine. Then you can go onto the Klasse twins.
