Does Megs NXT strip sealants?

I was wondering if NXT has cleaning properties :nixweiss . Will it strip off a sealant or wax? Applied some Opti-seal and was wondering if Nattys blue might be a better topper?

LOL, why would a wax strip off a sealant? The answer is no, it is just a wax, not a cleaner wax. I like Nattys much better than NXT, especially if you have black trim.

I believe NXT does have cleaning properties and will remove your sealant. It's a consumer product and the vast majority of protectants sold over the counter are cleaner waxes. The reason for that is most people (i.e. the general public) aren't too bothered with prep work and clay bar and polishing and they just want to wax the car.

If I remember correctly, when Mike Phillips gave the Megs Detailing class at the Irvine office, he said that NXT was strictly wax. Of course, if you PM his wife then she can ask her to ask him to confirm haha

Lynn Phillips is her name here. She works for Autopia :)

In my use of NXT 2.0. I find that it doesn't strip a glaze so I expect it would not strip a sealant either. But why top a sealant with another sealant? If I top, it's for the appearance that I can only get from a carnauba. I occasionally top a sealant with a carnauba for looks. Some sealants on some colors are just to glassy looking for my taste.

Actually, NXT does not have cleaners and it should not "strip" anything. Naturally any time you put ANY wax or sealant over a wax or sealnt it will remove *something* but NXT is a good choice as a "sealant" over another coat as it should not remove a lot.

I can also attest that NXT has no abrasives in it. It passes my controversial cd test with flying colors . I am amazed just how well NXT hides defects though, even if it's only for a fleeting moment.

I believe the consensus of this forum was that NXT has mild chemical cleaners in it. But most here feel it will not strip a fully cured, non-decaying layer of opti seal.

Personally, I'd rather top opti seal w/ something like OCW. You would be garanteed no cleaning, its faster, and easier. Plus i would wager OCW even as a stanalone would last longer than NXT.

I was also going to say, why put NXT over OS when there is OCW? I don't use much else than OCW these days, so easy to put on another layer after every second wash.

That's my experience as well.

I finally used NXT v2.0 for the first time on a pal's showcar. It absolutely did not strip the stuff I used before it. As Mike Phillips has said, the whole "cleaning power of NXT" thing is vastly overblown.

Yeah, any time you rub some liquid onto something it'll have *some* solvent-action, but it's not gonna do any stripping.

glaze over nxt ok?

Well, the glaze won't remove the NXT if that is your question but a more traditional approach would to put the glaze on under the sealant. This extends the life of the glaze. That said, when I was showing my MR2 I would apply Show Car Glaze over the LSP just prior to the show. After the show I would apply another coat of LSP. Unsealed, the glaze will evaporate in a couple of days.
