Does Degreaser Strip Protective Coating?

I was wondering whether it would be counterproductive to use degreaser (I bought GUNK and WD40 based on a thread here) if it strips the protective coating on the engine.



I recently bought a 1997 A4 that was well maintained but I am not sure whether the coating is still present. Any advice?

GUNK may be a bit too strong for newer, well-maintained engines...try using Simple Green/EF Hi Intensity/Orange Blast first...be sure to test before using Full Strength and also watch out for the Aluminum which is easily oxidized!

Thanks. I took back the GUNK and got Simple Green ... but I do not think it is the Orange Blast - it is just Green Degreaser ... that is what Pep Boys had.

Wal-Mart would have the Orange Blast. I found it to be cheeper there than anywhere.

I found Simple Green turns yout metal parts white.

Orange Blast is probably the best product to use that will not be too toxic.
