Does carnuba mute metallic paint

Just was noticing the clarity & depth of sealant vs the more suttle look that I get from OCW which has carnuba & polymer sealant if I understand correctly. So is it the nuba thats making it suttle looking?

Dumb question I know , just trying to figure out why I'm getting such a difference .

I don't think that carnaubas mute metallics. What you may be seeing is the slight darkening effect instead.

I've never had a carnauba mute flake. A few weeks ago I did my car with VM/Nattys (a carnauba) and asked my 70yo mum what she thought about the finish. Her only comment was that the flakes looks really sparkly. ;)

personally, i think carnaubas do mute flakes due to the warmer look. scottwax's dark paint looks great but its dark-- which makes a big difference versus lighter metallics like silver where i notice a very large difference between waxes and sealants. sealants give a crisper appearance on silvers that highlight the reflectiveness of the flakes. then again its always personal opinion on this stuff.

used to think liquid souveran looked great before discovering dwg and upgp. great look and doesn't attract as much dust vs. a wax.

in fact, i have nearly a full bottle of clearkote canauba wax that i'd be willing to sell cheap. pm me if interested.

My paint isn't dark...it's bright orange.

First off, it is spelled "subtle".

Second, carnaubas do not universally mute the flakes. If you are using the right wax for your paint color (NB for darker colors, for example), it will give it the natural nuba depth and pop. My Z is non-metallic but my wife's tC is a metallic gray and both CMW and NB make it look great as long as it's prepped correctly.

I thought 476S was slightly muting the flake on the Denali XL's Carbon Metallic, but after I repolished it with a different finishing polish and reapplied the 476S the flakes were *not* muted after all.

I currently use #16 on my wife's silver Audi, and her metalflake isn't muted compared to the silver vehicles I use sealants on, including my identical-paint Audi. Looks *different*, yeah, but not muted. I've used a lot of different LSPs on those two cars over the years, and I compare them side-by-side; I don't see carnaubas as consitently muting the metallic effect.

Wow, spelling police anyone?

Anyway, I do think that *some* nubas mute the flake on my truck. Souveran and 50/50 come to mind. Also I remember that #26 really muted the flake. #845, DP Max Wax and others dont seem to mute it as much.
