I only post this toask you guys..how many people get excite over meguiars product fluff to be let down. I think of NXT and NXT2 when I see meguiars making all this stuff about new "ultimate" products and how bad they were..

105 and 205 are only products in past couple years that have done outstanding job.. other stuff, pretty much fall on face to me..

what about you guys? what do you think ?

105/205 is very good. So is UC. With sema announcements I always think of the hyping of NXT wax and how bad they ended up being, I always think of this when they come out and fluff new stuff

NXT being classifed as bad is all relative. Flop. Depends on how you look at it.

I'm pretty sure it's been a success for them in mass markets like Walmart and autoparts supply. Pretty sure it took a fair bit of sales away from Mothers and others. For your average joe that washes their car a few times a year and puts some wax down when they get around to it... NXT is probably seen by them as a good product.

Has it preformed to Autopian levels of product performance .. not by a long shot. I bet a lot of the boutique online guys would love to have had 1/10th the level of success that NXT has had.

#26 and MUQW are excellent products and good values. There have been numerous products from different brand lines that didn't hold up to their pre-release hype

Good stuff from megs:

1. 105 + 205

2. 83- DACP

3. Ultimate Quik Wax

4. Interior Quik Detailer

5. Wheel Brightener

7. No7 Glaze - which could be "finicky" to use, depending on familiarity.

If NXT 1 was THAT good, I don't think they'll need to launch NXT2.

But NXT 2 does impart a very sophisticated look to deep/dark colours, that many of my customers love. It's just a non-durable cosmetic.

Heh heh, with the exception of their oh-so-great Interior QD and M105/M205, I think all the Meguiar's stuff I use has been around since the 50s! Well...not sure when M34 came out

For new products, lots of hype, lots of waiting and often, lots of let down. Though they have a stable of products that is great. I actually really like NXT on some colors, but yeah, the look fades fast.

Something would be very wrong if a company, particularly a company that is seeking shelf space in auto and department store chains, did NOT hype their products. Such a company would not survive very long. Smaller companies that focus their energies on smaller markets may well be able to rely on internet word-of-mouth; but large companies like Meguiar's and Turtle Wax certainly can't. They must advertise and hype their products. Of course, the hype must be confirmed by product performance if sales are to be maintained., but hype there must be.

I'm not a great fan of NXT, nor do I know how well it has sold in retail stores since its release; but I suspect it is still one of the better OTC protectants at its price point. When I visit Advance Auto or WalMart, I do not see synthetic sealants being sold that I would judge to be superior to NXT. Do you? Duragloss 105, Mother's Reflections Wax, and Collinite 845, e.g., may be better products; but they are not readily available. I certainly have never seen them at any stores where I have lived over the past four years (Northern NJ and Southern Virginia). In any case, it seems to me that Meguiar's, and specifically NXT, gets trashed too readily here on Autopia. What company has done more to bring ordinary guys like me into the detailing game? What company provides better customer support, especially for novices? And when I browse through the Advance Auto detailing shelves, I see several Meguiar's products I would be happy to purchase: Ultimate Compound, Ultimate Quik Wax, Ultimate Quik Detailer, #7, Gold Class Shampoo, Interior Quik Detailer, the Clay Bar Kit, M26, and ColorX immediately come to mind. Enthusiasts and professional detailers may prefer other products; but I judge each of the above products to be reliable and a good value--and they are locally available. Even if we judge NXT to be a failure, the simple fact remains that Meguiar's still offers plenty of well-performing OTC products. And in 2011 we will have the opportunity to try several new products. Most of these products (excluding the microfiber pad system) will not be of interest to most Autopians but they may be of interest to ordinary folk. I for one am looking forward to trying the new trigger version of Endurance tire dressing. And hopefully, Ultimate Wax will prove to be a worthy successor to NXT. I have to believe they would not be releasing Ultimate Wax if it were not superior to NXT. We shall see.

Of course, Meguiar's consumer line remains secondary to their professional lines. How do the body shop professionals view Meguiar's products? We don't hear much from these people here on Autopia or other online forums, yet I imagine that they make up the bulk of Meguiar's sales (though I don't know this for a fact). And as far as professional detailers and enthusiasts, when I started reading Autopia, Menzerna polishes ruled; but today M105 and M205 are giving Menzerna's polishes a run for their money. M105/M205 have certainly changed the way people use the dual action polisher! It is no longer assumed that the true detailer will always be a rotary man.

But I'm only a detailing buffoon, but I think I speak for plenty of buffoons who are grateful to Meguiar's and are glad to find their products available down the road.

While it's obvious that I essentially EXCLUSIVELY use Meg's products, I have been asked this by some of my clients... "Have you ever tried ______ instead of Meguiar's?"

And I tell them my honest opinion: Sure, there's potentially better products out there. But NO company can touch their customer service, and they legitimately DO have good products. Are they the best in the market? At certain things, yes. At others, no. But considering the amount of product that I go through, and the ability to manipulate the chemicals to do what I want/need them to, it only makes sense for ME to use them, almost exclusively. It wasn't until a year and a half ago, that I jumped on board with ONR. And that's been a fantastic purchase.

Again, YMMV, but for ME personally, I'm a die-hard, brand loyalist.

I think you've got to give companies like Meg's & Mother's the benefit of the doubt & a tip of the cap. After all, they've been able to sustain their otc market availability for years. My line of thinking is their customer base is the average Joe who shops at the local automotive stores, the Walmart's, Target's, even grocery stores & home improvement big box stores etc. You can even add Turtle wax to the mix. I wouldn't think of NXT as a "flop" in particular. It's weekend warrior Joe friendly. Provides a nice look that's easy to achieve with minimal effort. Plus, it's a Brand Name that's well known to the average Joe that comes with a reasonable price point. After all, it's companies like Meg's that got my interested in car detailing in the early-mid 1980's. To this day, I still have Meg's #26 paste wax (7 jars/cans/tins) in my arsenal. Even 2 bottles of NXT 2.0. I know I was getting a little of topic here, but you might wanna give Meg's a 2nd look from their point of view and how they've carved their own niche / nest in the overall otc landscape. When NXT came out, Meg's quickly reacted and improved NXT by bringing NXT 2.0 to the party. NXT 2.0 is a decent otc product. With all that being said, there's some Meg's products that hold their own against the "Competition". Meg's #26 & Meg's #16 are the 1st products that come to mind. #26 has been on the market for YEARS. IMO, it's a damn good wax. NXT 2.0 has introduced the average Joe to a "sealant" product. Unheard of to the masses who aren't detailer enthusiasts, or Pro Detailer's. Mother's has done the same. NXT Flop? I'm not so sure about that.

I personally think this thread was designed with troll like intensions so it can divert attention away from the great new products Meg's is currently launching. Tell me another company that is better planted within the detailing industry? They not be the jack of all trades, but they are a master at far more than any other I know of.

I think NXT2 is a decent product. It looks good, beads well and has decent durability. Unfortunately, though it comes off easily, NXT2 does not spread easily. IME, it drags, and getting a thin, even coat is difficult. That's its major downfall, IMO. Applying a product should be a pleasure, not a pita.

Hopefully, Meguiar's new Ultimate Paste/Liquid Waxes will be as user-friendly as their UQW and UC (which are excellent products, IMO).

I know things are all relative, but reacted quickly? NXT was released at the end of 03 and NXT 2.0 in 08. That's five years.

Define "Flop" for me. If you define flop as producing the #1 selling wax in the US, then I guess your right. What a major flop, LOL.

There are few things in life that are a certainty. Death, Taxes and Meguiar's to name three. Meguiar's has been in business for well over 100 years. Name any other car care company that has been around that long. You could probably count on one had the number of US companies of any type that are over 100 years old. One major reason for Meguiars longevity is that they listen well. They take customer feedback to heart and act on it. Hence the continuous product improvements.

Lot of people seem to enjoy to ragging on Meguiars, but name another company that does as much for the automotive detailing enthusiast. Go ahead, I'll wait.

Name another company that has the same level of support for their products. From free 800# staffed with trained CSR's who are truly helpful to guaranteed products. Go ahead, I'll wait.

Name another company that has the broad range and depth of car care products that Meguiars does. Go ahead, I'll wait.

I only wish there were more companies like Meguiars out there.

I for one, am looking forward with excitement to their new product release. I hope they have many more flops like these: NXT Car Wash, Gold Class Wash, NXT2.0, #16, #21 #26, #7, #105, #205, UC, UQD, UQW, #135, #34, #39, #40, Glass Cleaner Concentrate, Wheel Brightener, APC, Super Degreaser, Hyper-Wash, Hyper-Dressing, Last Touch, UniGRIT papers, their list of good or better products is almost endless and I've left a bunch out. It's hard to ignore the quality and value of these products.
